Once again this year an exceptional All Saints weekend of music. Always one of the highlights of the season here at St. Andrew's and in the Highland Park neighborhood. City of Pittsburgh sets Trick or Treating Hours: Wednesday, October 31, 2007, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. But don't take off those costumes yet!! Again this year at St. Andrew's, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, as the official city Trick-or-Treat period comes to an end, the always-popular NEIGHBORHOOD HALLOWEEN EXTRAVAGANA, with a brief "seasonally appropriate" organ recital, a climb into Ye Olde Darke Tower for a bit of bell-ringing, and, of course, the distribution of a few Halloween treats to complete the evening's harvest. Thank you to everyone who responded. Mr. John moved out today. Saturday morning, after I had penned the email, there was a large group of people gathered in the area and they proceeded to remove all the garbage that has been thrown over the hillside. I suspect it was placed there for their use. More importantly, many thanks to that group of gracious people for spending part of their weekend to remove all the appliances, tires and other junk that has been mindlessly thrown into the surrounding woods and hillside. thanks again, neighbours! In a message dated 10/29/2007 10:17:29 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, Pannny(a)aol.com writes: Today, on Stanton Avenue next to the Community Gardens, a Mr. Port O. John moved in. I phoned the telephone number that's on Mr. John's house, but only received a recording to call back on Monday. While it's sitting on city/park property, I don't appreciate looking at it from my front windows (it's doesn't blend in with the fall foliage...) and it surely doesn't seem there's a need for it there. All the homes here have indoor plumbing. Also, given the vandalism of the "johns" in the park and the most recent vandalism of dozens of car windows on this street, the last thing we need is to see our new neighbour "Mr. John" on it's side. Does anyone know who within the city I should contact to find out why in the world Mr. John now resides in our neighbourhood? Pittsburgh East Rotary Club is having its 11th Annual Pancake Breakfast & Auction, this Saturday, November 3, from 8 am - Noon. It is held at the Eastminster Presbyterian Church, corner of N. Highland & Penn Circle North. Proceeds benefit the East End Cooperative Ministry Food Pantry & Soup Kitchen, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Summer Camp Program and the Union Project. Tickets will be available at the Door. $7 for Adults; $5 Children under 12

[Highland Park] Fence Posts being ripped out - Hampton & N St Clair - Negative Police Response

Neighbors, I'm having a problem and could use some help. I own the white brick house at Hampton & N St Clair, directly across from Fulton School. I'm currently living overseas with the Army. My white picket fence is being vandalized. Yesterday (Saturday), 3 more pickets were pulled out between 0800 & noon. The police said that my neighbor can't call the vandalism in because she's not the property owner. I do have a tenant and I'm going to email her. If you're walking the neighborhood, please consider taking a camera and capturing criminal activity. I can't do much from here but find it a special crime that the police won't support someone calling in a problem. What if there's serious crime in one of the vacant houses, would the response (or lack) be the same. I'm open for any ideas. [Highland Park] Vandalism

Dear Highland Park Neighbors, This past Monday between 5pm & 7pm in the 1100 block of Portland Street, someone vandalized a small tree that my wife and I had planted between the front walk and the street. Somebody decided to rip down a major branch of the tree and to leave it in the center of our front walkway. It amounted to about a third of the entire tree, since the tree is only about 5 years old. We can only hope that the tree will survive the upcoming winter. And a month ago, the same happened to some of our sunflowers. What can be done to stop people who walk randomly down our streets from amusing themselves by destroying property that does not belong to them? Geoffrey
