Did anyone else have the experience of the foul-mouthed, frenzied-driving woman in the van? She was carting around six or seven teenage boys, only one of whom had a costume. The boys were pleasant enough. When I asked them what they were dressed as, they each had witty responses. But this was CLEARLY nuts. On a night when so many young children are out on the streets, to have a van ripping down the street and taking corners so quickly, barely slowing down for stop signs, and then the driver yelling the F-word at the kids she's driving around.... It was too much. I couldn't get a good look at her license plate number, and I was, frankly, afraid to confront her, since she was clearly easy to anger, and now knew where I lived... Did anyone else get a good look and call 911 on her? I'd be happy to help in any way if there's another complaint out there. Thanks! Rachel Kudrick

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to update everyone on the Citizen Observer and alert you to the fact that the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police will list all incidents reported throughout the city on a "blotter." Steps for accessing the blotter are below. For those of you who are not yet familiar with the Citizen Observer, I have attached some information from the website. The City of Pittsburgh, Bureau of Police's newest community safety project: CitizenObserver, the communication tool for a new century. We are providing information that will include new ways to keep us all connected and informed and will help keep our community safer. Watch Groups can have their own dedicated page on CitizenObserver to stay informed about what is happening in your neighborhood. You can receive Watch Group Alerts directly from our department about crimes or other incidents that are uniquely relevant to you. Local businesses can participate in the Business Alert Network. Be sure to select your correct business category when you sign up so that we only send you alerts that impact your company. There is no limit to what we can accomplish in the pursuit of a safer Pittsburgh if we all work together, stay alert and stay connected! Sorry, I know many people have asked for recommendations for a plumber before, but I don't think anyone has ever posted a final list. So I have to ask again . . . does anyone know of an honest plumber? Preferably one who provides free estimates? I promise to compile and post all the responses into one email. I was thinking about Halloween and how cute all the kids are in their costumes, and how not so cute the older ones and adults are without their costumes, carrying pillow cases. I dont like giving candy to the ones without costumes. Sooo.......I was thinking about putting up a sign that says "no costume, no candy". Just a small effort of a costume would be acceptable. I have gotten quite a few positive responses from neighbors on Jackson Street. I would like to know how others feel about posting such a sign. Part of me feels a bit Scroog-ish, but I guess I have boundaries. Let me hear some of your thoughts, please. Thanks, Marty Harkins

Neighbors, Cmdr Brackney has been emailing off the list. She's talking to my neighbor and will provide her assistance. I'm interested in the 911 phenomenon as well. There's actually a police entity (not No. 5) that determines if something is valid or not, isn't this quite subjective? As a neighborhood, how can we address this very serious issue? Two different things. Halloween Night Music: Wednesday 10/31, 8 p.m. (Not Tuesday: that was a lapse, with apologies.) Wear Costumes, etc. Separate event: All Saints Music Festival begins Thursday 11/1, 8 p.m., with Choral Evensong and Musical Recital, continues Sunday morning 11/4 with an orchestral mass at 11 a.m., concludes Monday evening 11/5, 8 p.m., with a Three Choirs Festival. The individuals that did the Saturday morning clean up on Stanton Street were the members of the Mountaineering School from the Explorers Club of Pittsburgh. They were supported by a local public clean-up organization (whose name I'm currently blocking on - shame on me) and representatives of the City of Pittsburgh.
