[Highland Park] More crime on Jackson Street

We have had two more incidents of crime on Jackson St - 6400 block. One involved non-neighborhood kids stealing pop from a porch, not heinous, but still unacceptable. The other, involved the brandishing of a gun by two youths - not sure what type of gun, but the police were called and came promptly. The police have emphasized calling 911 to report ANYTHING that is uncomfortable. We have had several sightings of 10-20 kids walking down the middle of the street around 10-11:00 pm. The police want to know about this. The neighbors are having a meeting on Wed 8/2, to discuss the organizing of an effective network system, surviellence cameras, and a block watch so our kids can feel safe again. [Highland Park] Reservoir of Jazz - call for volunteers

Hi I am the HPCC chairperson this year for the Reservoir of Jazz concerts at the park. If you are interested in volunteering to help out with the events, please drop me a line so I have a feel for how many people will be around. We need people to help out with set-up, helping out with arts activities for the kids, and clean up at the end of the concerts. There will be a concert each sunday in August (and then again Labor Day weekend) from 5-7 pm, folks will be on hand to set up starting @ 3pm. If you are interested in the art activities, please plan on being around by 4:30. If you are intersted, and can make it for one or more of the events that would be great.
