[Highland Park] Fountain to Resume Operation

Mike Gable, Deputy Director of City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works, said this week that the fountain basin should be refilled on Monday, July 10th. The basin floor needed to have its coating removed and replaced because it was flaking off and causing pumps, valves, & screens to clog. That's why the fountain has not been operating yet this year. The rain we had a few weeks ago prevented the contractor from redoing the fountain floor when expected--but that work has apparently been completed. Let's hope there are no further delays! Rudy

[Highland Park] Need a babysitter?

Hello neighbors! My name is Melissa Ratliff (Missy) and I am in need of an afternoon job. The family that I have been working for this year is unexpectedly moving next week. Here is a little about me: I am a 24 year old female from North Carolina. I graduated from UNC with a BA in Classical Archaeology, and I will be attending graduate school next year in England! So needless to say I need to save as much money as possible! I moved to Pittsburgh this year to work for a family that I worked with down in NC. I still work for them M-F 8am-1pm. I also work Sunday mornings in St. Andrew's Nursery. I have been babysitting since I was 11, and have worked with kids of all ages, and children with disabilities (ADHD, Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Mental Retardation, etc.). I come with great references, so please ask if you would like to speak with them. I also love animals and have a dog and a cat myself. I love being outdoors, swimming, playing sports and games, doing arts and crafts...all the essential kid stuff! I also have an extensive Disney movie collection that I am always more than willing to share on rainy days. Like I said, I will be moving to England, so unfortunately I just need work until the end of August (right now I think I will be leaving Pittsburgh the 27). I am hoping for something here in Highland Park (since this is where my other job is and where I live). I am free M-F 2:30-7:30pm, Saturdays, Sundays after 3:00pm and occasional weekday evenings. [Highland Park] kidz-e-fest

neighbors, please come out july 15 from 12-6 at peabody high school field and enjoy kidz-e-fest. kidz-e-fest is a celebration for children ages 12 and under and is organized by 8 high school students working in an east end cooperative ministry program. there will be games and prizes, inflatable moonwalks, obstacle courses,etc., art activites, live performances, a community mural and more. everything is free except the food. come enjoy and please tell a friend. thanks, muzz meyers program coordinator community organizations are welcome to pass out information if they desire!
