[Highland Park] More incidents!

Hi all, I've lived in Highland Park for about 6 years. Up until about last Fall, I've enjoyed a relatively quite and peaceful life here. Last fall started a string of incidents that have been both nuisances and criminal. Kids have taken fall decorations from my porch and ripped off winter lights. Over the Winter, some one threw bricks and a paint can into my new pool, destroying the winter cover and ruining the liner. My roommate's car was broken into recently and my neighbors car was stolen. I'm sure it's the same group of kids who have no regard for other peoples property or respect for authority. I've installed more lighting and am planning on getting a camera system to hopefully catch these thugs in the act. The previous writer was also correct in the advise of not leaving anything of value in your cars and keeping them locked, even in your driveway or garage. I truly believe if my roommate had used her club, her car wouldn't have been broken into. Finally, get involved in the community group and/or a block watch. I plan to!!! Thanks for letting me vent. Please also make sure that your cars are locked and that there are no valuables in them. I had mine broken into on Wednesday evening and a number of small items taken. [Highland Park] Vandalism on 1100 block of N. St. Clair Street

Hi, Just wanted everyone to be alert. Last night (Thursday), around 10:30 p.m. someone threw what looks like a huge chunk concrete through the front window of the first floor apartment of my house. A neighbor saw a group of 3 or 4 kids (whom she could identify as neighborhood kids) walking quickly down N. St. Clair toward and near Bryant, but we're not sure if they did this or not. Police were called. I was told that a detective would be calling (today?) to complete the report. I'll be following through with whatever I have to do around pursuing the guilty parties. [Highland Park] The stone wall on Bunkerhill Street

Have you noticed the stone wall along the entrance to the Park along Bunkerhill Street? For a while, there has been a section that is in disrepair. Although I noticed it, I did not realize that it had been like that for such a long time. I would like to thank a neighbor (Thanks Faith) who sent me a note about the situation. I spoke with Damon Blankenship, who is in charge of the Park maintenance for City Parks. Mr Blankenship informed me about the situation. Apparently, the damage was done by a car driven by some Peabody students. The City is waiting to get a settlement from the auto insurance company to pay for the repairs to the wall. The contractor has been out to look at the damage, and has given the City an estimate of the cost. The matter is tied up in "legal" between the City and the insurance company. Mr Blankenship did not know how long it would be before the repairs were made. That is all the information that I have at this time. I will let you know if I find out anything else about getting this damage repaired. Bob Staresinic

Dear Highland park neighbors, We have had the delight of hosting a young girl, Mathilde, from France stay with us last year for four months and this summer for one month. We have developed a wonderful relationship with her family and have recently found a home for the girlfriend of her brother with the Kolerics on Browning road. Her name is Florence and she is 19 years old. She is desperately seeking ways to earn some money so that she can do some traveling while she is here. She is available for babysitting, petsitting, watering plants for vacationers, etc. If you have any jobs that you can throw her way, please contact me and I will forward to Florence. [Highland Park] Owner of D & L Dry Cleaners Died Today

Sadly, local media reports that Dominick Lippiello, owner of D & L Dry Cleaners, died in his shop on Bryant Street this morning apparently of carbon monoxide poisoning. I knew him as "Tom" but perhaps it was really "Dom" or he went by his middle name. I did not know him personally beyond talking with him a couple of times and taking his photo for the Highland Park business listing on the web site. I have been told that his family lives in Squirrel Hill and that before he opened his business on Bryant Street, he operated a dry cleaner shop on Jackson Street at the location where Hendrix House of Hair is now. Would anyone like to coordinate sending a gift of flowers or anything else to his family in appreciation of his 20 years or so of being in business in Highland Park? Rudy

[Highland Park] Large hungry black boxer-looking dog.

Last night in our yard and on our back patio a large very hungry black (boxer, cane corso?) dog was spotted searching for food. We will call the animal shelter in the morning, but we just want to let the neighborhood know as this dog is desperately in need of some food and therefore might be aggressive.
