[Highland Park] Go see Maritza Mosquera's Immigrant Body: in translation

I attended Maritza Mosquera's Immigrant Body: in translation dialogue on Wednesday June 9th. I joined a group of others from Chile, England, Cuba, California, South Africa and elsewhere. (I represented El Salvador). We drank sangria and wine while partaking in a provocative conversation on the cultures we left behind and about the new cultures we have adopted. I urge others to take time to join in on the conversation this coming Wednesday from 7 - 9 pm At Artist Image Resource. You'll be surprised at the familiar faces from Highland Park featured in the installation. Sal Wilcox Education Innovations, Inc. 412.363.7707 Highland Park resident and artist Maritza Mosquera's Immigrant Body: in translation opens on Saturday June 5 and runs until June 26th at Artist Image Resource on the North Side. (518 Foreland Street. 412.321.8664) June 9th is hosted by Education Innovations, Inc. Immigrant Body: in translation presents voices of an American community through collaborations, dialogues and installations. It brings people together to share individual stories of immigration and emigration within and outside the United States. Dialogues: Homebody: are informal community dialogues about where we come from. They take place at Artists Image Resource on Wednesdays from 7 - 9 pm. June 9 hosted by Latin American Cultural Union and Education Innovations, Inc. June 16 hosted by Hill House Association and Latin American Cultural Union Collaborations: Gatherings to capture stories and images were organized on individual basis and with assistance from Aliquippa Alliance for Unity and Development, Hill House Association, LEDP at Liberty Elementary School, The Jewish American Museum of Pittsburgh, Latin American Cultural Union, Education Innovations and other community groups. Come view the exhibition, share a light snack and take part in the installation as it furthers its collection of our stories of immigration or emigration to the United States, Western Pennsylvania, and Pittsburgh. Artists Image Resource is funded by the PA Council on the Arts, the Allegheny Regional Asset District, the Heinz Endowment, the Pittsburgh Foundation, an Anonymous Pittsburgh donor, and individual contributors. Maritza Mosquera is a painter and installation artist, born in Quito, Ecuador, now residing in (Highland Park) Pittsburgh, PA. She uses listening as a practice in all her work including art, activism, parenting, education programming and Re-evaluation Counseling. [Highland Park] Highland Park Youth Group - first meeting this Saturday

Hello, everyone, My name is Marie Jackson. My partner, Sal Wilcox, and I have agreed to be co-advisors of the Highland Park Youth Group (HPYG). Sal Wilcox and I run Education Innovations, Inc., a nonprofit organization in Highland Park. The HPYG was proposed by Michael Johnson and Jessica King in the recent newsletter of the Highland Park Community Club. This activity is one outcome of the recently completed Highland Park Community Plan (www.highlandparkcommunity.com) Sal and I would like to welcome all youth aged 12-17 living in or near Highland Park, plus parents and guardians, to the kick-off meeting of the HPYG. This meeting will take place from 7:30 - 8:30 PM on Saturday, June 19 at the Highland Park Farm House, second floor conference room, Heberton and Grafton streets, and will address potential activities for young people for this summer. Potential ideas for activities will be the main focus of our first meeting. Please come to the meeting with ideas about social activities and community service activities that we can implement this summer. We'll also discuss all logistics, including fees and adult supervision. The agenda will include time for discussing ideas about a cool name for the group. Drinks and refreshments will be served. We are not planning to supply child care, but if you are willing to watch small children during the meeting, or need special accommodations for child care, feel free to contact me. [Highland Park] Highland Park Community Plan is available

Hi all, The final report of the Highland Park Community Plan is available online at www.highlandparkcommunity.com. The Community Plan has over the past two and a half years attempted to define this neighborhood's strengths, identify areas for improvement and devise strategies to enable this part of Pittsburgh to fulfill its promise to all of us. The final report, which contains elements that speak to each of these goals, is only one outcome for this project; another is the ongoing process of "implementation"--translating projects into reality. As this can be done only with the active participation of neighbors and local organizations, who help redefine issues, goals and strategies over time, the planning process can actually continue for as long as we wish. I encourage you to check out the Community Plan final report, the Online Library, the Discussion Boards and other aspects of the Community Plan website. You can order hard copy or CD-ROM versions of the final report at http://communityconnections.heinz.cmu.edu/highlandpark/report.jsp. Hard copies of abbreviated and full versions of the final report, as well as CD-ROMs with the final report, will be available at Tazza D'Oro and Sandy's Deli next week. You are welcome as well to consider participating in, or suggesting other projects consistent with the Community Plan recommendations (see the document "Projects Signup Sheet" on the Community Plan homepage). While spending money we shouldn't, my friend and I were informed that there was a mess of vinyl (records that is) at a house on Heberton (apparantly; a lot of good '80's, and 70's), but when we got there, we found no such happy collections.
