To Our Highland Park Neighbors: My wife and I are searching for a child care expert to take care of 14 week old baby (current age) either in our home, or in someone's home, or a live-in arrangement (free rent). We currently have a wonderful young woman who will be returning to college in mid-August and are looking for someone to start about August 15th. We are looking for someone who is interested in 25-35 hours/week with the majority of the time being during the day but may need a few hours of evening care. My wife is a professor at the University of Pittsburgh School and of Social Work and I am Director of Policy for the Pennsylvania Department of Community Economic Development (I am in Harrisburg 4 days/week). We live in the 5700 block of Elgin Street. If any of our wonderful Highland Park neighbors are interested or know someone who is interested in this opportunity please contact us. These folks are getting around. The same night between 10 pm and 6 am, my car was broken into on DeVictor Place, stuff thrown around, and $10 taken from the glove compartment. None of my other very valuable (HAHA) possessions were taken. They say a woman's car is like her purse and carries her life. A neighbor saw a group of 3 or 4 kids (whom she could identify as neighborhood kids) walking quickly down N. St. Clair toward and near Bryant, but we're not sure if they did this or not. Police were called. I was told that a detective would be calling (today?) to complete the report. I'll be following through with whatever I have to do around pursuing the guilty parties. If anyone knows anything about this or similar incidents, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I also want to say THANKS to the many neighbors who came running out of their houses to try to help and who gave support as we were waiting for the police to arrive. Enricos's Tazza d'Oro celebrates the Tour de France and Bastille Day on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at 6:00 pm. The celebration will feature a cookout with Fred Rongier's authentic French crepes, cheeses and sausages, but also standard frankfurters and hamburgers. Msr. Rongier is a professional crepe maker who lives in the neighborhood. As is customary at this kind of event at Enrico's, complimentary sangria will be provided. There will be two contests: - Best-Decorated Bike - winners receive gift certificates from Gatto's Cycle Shop. - Team-Relay Tricycles These events are for adults and children alike! [Highland Park] East End Historical Tour at E-Fest - TODAY!

Yesterday I took an hour-long historical trolley tour of "East Liberty" (according to its former definition, which includes Point Breeze, Lincoln-Larimer, Homewood, and Highland Park). The tour will be offered again today as a part of E-Fest at 2:00 pm and at 4:00 pm for just $2. I strongly encourage you to take the tour if you interested in the history of our area. I apologize for the late notice, but I did not know about it until yesterday afternoon, when I visited E-Fest. The tour visits historical sites of Pittsburgh's East End, including a log house that was built in 1794 and still stands on a quiet Lincoln-Lemington street, although the house is somewhat camouflaged. Take the tour to see whether you can find it!
