[Highland Park] Any witnesses to car accident at Penn Circle and Highland, 5:45 PM Tuesday 10/13/09?

Hi- As a resident of Morningside, I typically hang back and just listen to the listserv, but I now have a small favor to ask. I was involved in a fender-bender yesterday just before the 5:45 PM at the corner of Penn Circle North and North Highland Ave, and I was hoping that there might just be someone on this listserv who witnessed it (there was a line waiting at the red light to go north on Highland and there must have been Highland Parkers in it), and would be willing to take a minute to describe it. I was in a Silver Camry in the left-most curb lane of Penn Circle going straight through the intersection, there was a man on a motor scooter who turned left onto Highland immediately in front of me. Once in the intersection, the other car involved, a black VW Rabbit, attempted to turn left onto Highland from the inner lane, directly into my path (really, this happened!). Needless to say, I slammed on my brakes but still hit the side of her car. No one was hurt, which is what is important, but the driver of the other car continued to maintain that she had signalled for a legal turn (and may be telling her insurance company that she was in a legal turn lane, for all I know). The police came, but would not file a report as no one was injured, so it's literally a "he-said, she-said." If anyone witnessed this accident, or might know a scooter rider who would have been in East Liberty yesterday at this time and could pass along this message to him, an email and a few minutes of your time talking to my insurance rep would be a fantastically huge help help to me. There have been several posts lately looking for maternity items at reduced prices, so I thought I'd pass this along, from this week's Post Gazette: Consignment sale set for maternity clothes, items Monday, October 12, 2009 By Sara Bauknecht, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Looking to buy or sell gently used maternity clothes or children's items? The Pittsburgh North franchise of Just Between Friends will host its first consignment event Oct. 23-24 at the Robert Morris University Hat Trick Club, Neville Island. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 23 and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 24. Michelle Hall and Kristin Krause, local franchise co-owners, said items will include a Pottery Barn kids bedding set, high-end children's clothing, double and single strollers and a USA Baby crib with changing table and hutch. All items come from registered consignors, who price and tag their items using the company's online barcode system. Consignors can earn up to 70 percent of the profits made from their sold items. Unsold merchandise will go to the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. Consignors can claim tax deductions for the donated items. "In this economic time when people are looking to save money and to earn money, we find most of the proceeds are going back into the pockets of people in the area," Ms. Krause said. [Highland Park] legal questions for the legal minds out there...

Have any of you fine folks ever taken legal action against a contractor? It seems that my 3 year old roof is so poorly done that the new contractors I asked to bid on a leak and some other various problems are turning the job down because they do not want to inherit the problems they see coming. A roofer that came highly recommended from this list danced around the idea of what sounded to me like "rip it off and start over". Also, some items that are clearly noted in the original contract were not done at all. Requesting the original roofer to make repairs is not an option; they returned 3 times and still could not get it right. In the end, they behaved very poorly (ie. angry and violent) and I don't want them back on my property, nevermind my roof. I'm not sure how to proceed...do I need an attorney? If so, what type of attorney? Any advice is greatly appreciated!
