Hello everyone, It's Tuesday, and that means hula hooping at the Union Project. Everyone is welcome! We have hoops for little people and big people, and we'll provide one-on-one instruction as needed. *Hoop Union Tuesdays HULA HOOP JAM TODAY and every Tuesday until October 27 6:30 - 7:30 pm Union Project Corner of Negley and Stanton Please bring $2 to help us pay for space* We hoop rain or shine. Outside if it's nice, inside if it's not. We've got lots of hoops to share. FAIR WARNING: Hoop Union Tuesdays are your chance to learn to hoop for almost free. I know this has been asked before, but I'm interested in hearing from neighborhood parents who have their children at Dillworth, Fulton, and Liberty, all of which we're considering for our older son, who will be starting kindergarten next fall. [Highland Park] Leaf Removal

I'm looking for someone who is reliable and reasonably-priced to remove the leaves from my yard in about 4 weeks. My yard is rather large: my house sits on approximately 1/3 of an acre here in Highland Park, so when I do it myself, it takes me two full days to accomplish the task. Any suggestions and references are appreciated, as are any tips on folks I should avoid. I'm somewhat partial to hiring a neighborhood kid to do this job, but I'd consider using a company if it is equipped to vacuum the leaves up and take them away. Thanks -- Jack

SPECIAL FREE EVENT Sunday November 1, 2:00 to 5:00 pm Trader Joe’s Building, Penn Ave, Village of Eastside Wine, cheese, and entertainment will be provided To kick off a major historical festival planned for 2010, the East End/East Liberty Historical Society will hold a special public event which will feature presentations of old photos, postcards, artifacts, and other memorabilia about East Liberty and Highland Park. This event is free and open to the public. Long-time East End resident George Clark and others will exhibit some of their unique collections. The Trader Joe’s building housed the East Liberty Post Office prior to the redevelopment of the 1960s. We will show photographs of the building before and after renovation. Our event will be held in the vacant store space next to Relax the Back, which is adjacent to the Trader Joe’s store. Ample free parking is available. Since the publication of our book Pittsburgh's East Liberty Valley, numerous people have told us that they have additional historical information or materials to share. If you have anything you might be willing to display or a story to relate at this event, please get in touch with me. All items will of course be returned after the program. This is an opportunity to help our community by preserving our wonderful heritage. At the November 1 event, we will also be asking people to sign up to help organize the 2010 East Liberty festival. If you cannot attend the meeting, I would still appreciate hearing from you to indicate your willingness to help. Thank you.
