Friends and Neighbors, I am, at best, an average tennis player, but I love to hit the ball just for the fun and exercise. I was wondering if anybody else would be interested in putting together a phone list of folks in the neighborhood who would like to play on the spur of the moment during the fair weather we sometimes have in the fall, and even the winter, from time to time. The courts at the Flynn Parklet (N. St. Clair and Bunker Hill Street) seem to have nets up year 'round and they are pretty handy for most of us. If you're interested, please drop me a line with your name and phone number. If I hear from 2 or more people, I will put together a phone/e-mail list and e-mail it to everyone who gets back to me. [Highland Park] Burglary on Negley

I am posting this message on behalf of my friend Jim Gallagher. Sometime between Monday 8 PM and Tuesday 8 AM, his house was burglarized. The unusual thing about the burglary was the items that were taken. The leaded glass from his entryway, the fireplace in the Living Room and 9 bronze wall sconces were the items that were stolen. He lives at 1006 N. Negley and just recently put his house on the market. If anyone saw anything in that area or has information, please let me know. I am also curious to know if any other homeowners have experienced burglaries similar to the unusual nature of this one. Thank you. Christy Fitzpatrick

This is not at all an unusual type of theft. These are professional thieves who sell historic house parts to dealers and on the Internet. They make quite a lot of money this way. Thanks for alerting the neighborhood, we need to be vigilant in case they decide to work over this area! It could be that they are targeting properties listed for sale, since they can look at pictures of the buildings on line to see whether there's anything worth stealing. This is an exciting event being coordinated by the Urban Ecology Collaborative - Pittsburgh. Please pass this invitation on to anyone you think might be interested, and register soon! Yours, Gudrun Wells. The Pittsburgh Green Forum is being developed by the Green Vacant Land Working Group, a project of the Mayor's Office, City of Pittsburgh. The Urban Ecology Collaborative (UEC) has been asked to host this Forum with funding from the Sprout Fund in order to contribute to the Redd Up initiative to ultimately make Pittsburgh one of the Nation's cleanest and greenest cities by 2010. The goal of the Forum is to solidify commitment on all levels - from grassroots to government - for greening as a tool for increased economic development, healthier communities and improved quality of life in the City of Pittsburgh. *The **Pittsburgh** Green Forum for Vacant Land Revitalization* . Training for Green Forum facilitators and note takers, Wed. Oct 25th, 6 pm @ the Pittsburgh Project (where the Green Forum will be held, Nov. 2nd and 3rd… see Forum Design for agenda). During the two days of the Forum we will need help with small group facilitation and note takers. We want to capture all the community input we can to be sure that this is a dynamic participatory community-wide process. The CORO Fellows of Pittsburgh will serve as most of the small group facilitators but a few more are needed. Mainly we will need note takers (26) and people willing to serve as guides (12) to the large numbers of community residents who will attend the Forum.
