The Union Project is seeking artists working in all media to participate in the 2nd Annual Artists of The Union Project Holiday Sale, starting November 27th and closing December 15th in the Great Hall of the Union Project. Interested artists are invited to submit up to 6 images of work and an artist statement pertaining to the theme “Connect, Create, Celebrate”. It is recommended that all artwork submitted be available for sale, however this is not a requirement. The Union Project retains a 30% commission on all artwork sold with the proceeds going to support the project. DAVID HART will be speaking at the Union Project this Thursday, October 12 at the weekly Kiwanis Club of East Liberty (KCEL)meeting. Plan to arrive between 5:30-5:45 PM and grab a latte or a sandwich! The meeting begins at 5:45 PM. David, our Highland Park neighbor, will be speaking about his work as the chief operating officer of Carnegie Learning. With more than 20 years of experience in business development, financial planning, and operations, he publishes classroom based math curricula using an intelligent software program for middle and high school students across the country. LEGIONS OF UNDEAD: UNITE! STBD is filming a Halloween-themed episode on Sunday Oct 15 and Sunday Oct 22nd in Bellevue, PA, and WE NEED ZOMBIES! Makeup artists will be on-hand to convert the willing into the undead. Volunteer zombies will not be required to attend both shoots, though you're certainly welcome to. Interested? Here's what you need: 1. Proof of ID (over 18, please). 2. Clothing you don't mind never wearing again (fake blood tends to stain) 3. The willingness to amuse yourself safely between shots 4. Common sense (we'll be filming in a warehouse, so safety is key) 5. Transportation to and from Bellevue. We have two more (I'm guessing a couple) this year...I guess the pond I put in last year really increased the value of our racoon real estate! It's the Bi-Annual request for Pollworkers. I am personally looking for people to work at my poll in Fulton School (Pittsburgh 11-1), but the county needs people all over. This is your opportunity to have an impact on the Election Process by playing an active part in it! May was very exciting - we faced challenges with the new machines and were rewarded by enabling confused folks to exercise their right to vote - not too many things feel better! November promises to be just as exciting! The hours 6:30 am - 8 pm, with a couple of generous breaks during the day. If you need to vote at another location, we will accomodate that. [Highland Park] Transplanted southerner needs a storm door

Hello neighbors, Apparently I need to install a storm door. I just moved here and my friends on the block advise me that they are a winter necessity. On close inspection I can in fact see daylight streaming in through the crack when the door is closed. Please advise me on where/from whom to purchase a storm door and if you have any experience with cost that info is appreciated. My door is arched so I suppose it would have to be a custom door. (?) [Highland Park] Seamstress/Stapler(!) Needed

Hi, I want to recover the cotton upholstery on my eight dining room chairs. It's very simple to do. The chair seats just lift off, the old fabric comes off, and then the new can be stapled on. I've been doing it myself with a good stapling machine for thirty years, but now my hands just won't do it. Does anyone know a seamstress who might do this simple work? Upholsterers, or even Sanes, won't do it without upgrading the task to a full-scale rewebbing of the chairs, and they don't need that. Thanks. Pat Butterfield

[Highland Park] Recommend door installer?

Dear Highland Park neighbors, We need to buy a new back door and have it installed, plus have someone install an old stained-glass transom above it. Our house is old. This probably won't be a typical installation, with the transom and the fact that the door space is old and large. Can anyone suggest tradespersons we might work with on something like this?
