A neighbor of mine was [temporarily?] adopted over the weekend by a young, stray cat with lovely disposition. He's jet black with white paws and throat, fairly thin, and with somewhat pointed, prominent ears. He's already been confronted by one of the bouncer cats on the street - 1100 block of Winterton - yet has remained, so I suppose he likes the shelter menu so far. I believe my neighbor is planning to have him checked and adopt him permanently, unless other notification is made. Please let me know if he may be yours!! Tony piccolial(a)earthlink.net

Can anyone give me a description of his bike. I know of a man who rides around late at night. My apartment was broken into a couple of weeks ago, and the man who did this rides his bike late nights. He is a black male, around 6 foot tall, slim, and medium brown skin, with some facial hair. Please keep me informed if anything else happens. This needs to stop. Thanks all for posting! I just called the police at Penn Circle and they said ANYTIME Tony is seen, we should CALL 911. It does seem amazing that he would be around at 12:30 am, 4 am, 6:45 am. I am so grateful that we are all communicating about this. Suzi W. btw, the zone 5 station # at Penn circle is 412-665-3605. I'm glad I had saved one of my old emails.

I agree with those who have commented that the worst thing about this situation is being approached by a stranger at odd hours of the day & night. Since this pattern of his (claiming a car break-down, asking for money) is now familiar to us all, I hope that everyone he approaches with this scam calls the police. "Tony" was actually out riding his bicycle on Portland St a little after 4 AM this morning. I am always up at that time, having coffee on my front porch. Since I have "met" him before, I recognized him. I have been approached by him previously and have been told his story. I can only assume that I am now immuned to his tactics since I know what he is up to and turned him down a few weeks ago with his request for needed cash. It does not seem like time is an issue with him so everyone needs to be alert at all times of the day. While he was riding his bike, he was very busy looking around for signs of early life. I would be more concerned with being approached by a total stranger at that time of day, and not the scam reason behind that. Like some previous "eye witness" reports of him coming out of the dark worries me more than that reason behind his "visit". Everyone needs to be on their toes 24 hours a day. Have a wonderful day !!! [Highland Park] scam artist

Thank you to all for posting the notices about the man scamming the neighborhood with a request for money to pay for a tow for his car that broke down. He just came to my door on Highview Street, rang the bell this morning at about 6:45 a.m., and after he left, I called the police. My screen door was open, but locked. He wasn't threatening, but did say he was a neighbor living at (and gave a number) a house down the street. I told him I didn't have any cash in the house. He turned around and approached my neighbor across the street, and I then went outside and told him I thought he was the same man who was going around the neighborhood approaching people for money. He left in a hurry to get his bike parked down the street. The police responded quickly and were going to look for him. Patricia

Thank you so much for everyone who posted about the gentleman (Tony) who was approaching folks with a story that he needed about 10 bucks for towing. Last night (Saturday 7/24) when I pulled up to my apartment (between Jackson and Stanton on Heberton), he came out of the shadows. It was 12:30 a.m.!! He gave me his story and I told him I'd been to Sandcastle all day and had no cash but wished him well. I didn't know if I should call and report it to someone--he seemed harmless and backed away as soon as I let him know I wasn't going to give him anything. I was so grateful to have the information from this list to know he was scamming. I admit it was very unnerving, though, as a single woman, that late on a Saturday night. It was the first time (in ten years) I'd felt my street was unsafe. I would be willing to describe him to police if anyone thinks that is a good idea. Suzi W.
