The Rangemaster at the Police Training Academy has notified the HPCC that they will using the range on this Friday (July 8th) and next Friday (July 15) . (In general, the use of the range is limited to Mon - Thu, 8:30 - 5:00, as per the agreement worked out several years ago between the City and the HPCC). This firing will be for firearms training for CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) officers. Firing will end by 5:00 PM on both Fridays. David Klahr

Are there any database experts out there, specifically who know Alpha 5, that can advise us on programming a database to keep track of contacts with a large number of students (many users at a time)? We know Access extremely well, but it does not seem to be suited to this purpose. We have used Filemaker and it is not sophistocated enough. We are considering purchasing Alpha 5, but are having dificulty learning how to program in it. Can anyone advise us or even suggest another program? Union Project Update - www.unionproject.org - NEIGHBORHOOD CELEBRATION THIS WEEK! The Union Project will be hosting an outdoor neighborhood celebration THIS THURSDAY, July 7 from 6-8:30 pm. The Celebration will be an extension of the Union Project’s weekly Artist and Farmer’s Market, which takes place every Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm in front of the Union Project. The neighborhood celebration will feature free Face Painting and Games, FREE Kid's Art Activities, FREE BBQ Sandwiches, corn on the cob and more. Radio Hip Hop DJ’s will provide music. Plan to come early to buy locally grown produce and handmade crafts and stay late to join the Union Project in a summer celebration. For more information contact hilary(a)unionproject.org or call 412-780-5798. Reviving Memory, Revitalizing History: Union Project Prepares to Unveil Phase One Restoration Free hard hats are provided! On Friday, July 22 from 6 to 9 p.m., visitors will have an opportunity take a behind-the-scenes tour of The Union Project as construction on the first phase nears completion. Tours will highlight the temporary stained glass studios, where dozens of area residents have learned to restore stained glass, using the heavily damaged windows from the church as their class materials. More than 65 of the original windows have already been completed, and more than 20 will be installed and on display when the building reopens. Visitors will also tour the former Sunday school wing, the focus of the Phase One Restoration, now recast as office space for area nonprofits and studios for artists. Barrett Black will perform in the main sanctuary. A DJ will also provide music. Interactive exhibits will encourage visitors to explore the history of the church and to leave a record of their memories of the building and the neighborhood. The evening will not only honor a rich history, it will celebrate a vibrant future. The $30 ticket includes admission, drinks, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a souvenir hard hat. Tickets will also be available at the door the evening of the event. Create Mosaic Furniture at Union Project! Students enrolled in this class will learn how to create their own glass mosaic furniture. Students will have the choice of working on tabletops that will remain at Union Project for use in Union Station café or students can provide their own furniture to mosaic. All other class materials and tools will be provided. Tools will remain the property of Union Project but will be available for use during class sessions. Cost for this class will be $125 per student. Classes will take place on Saturday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm beginning September 17 thru October 22. Union Project is expanding its revolutionary stained glass restoration classes to the broader Pittsburgh business community. We would like to work with your business or organization to provide a valuable service in relationship and team building, while at the same time promoting volunteerism and service to the community. Union Project will host your group of between 4 and 12 individuals for half-day, full-day, or weekend long workshops concentrating on team building and the importance of good working relationships. Your group will assist in and/or complete the full restoration of a historic stained glass window that will be permanently reinstalled into the Union Project. Union Project staff skilled in leadership initiatives will lead the team building portion of the classes. Catherine Berard of Prism Stained Glass is the primary instructor for stained glass portion of the classes. Cost for each workshop is determined by the number of participants in each workshop. Union Project will work with your group to determine the workshop cost. Now accepting applications for rental partners Union Project is now accepting rental applications for use of studio, office, venue, and board meeting spaces at the Union Project. Offices are still available for yearly lease. Rental agreements can begin as early as September 1, 2005. In addition, there are 3 separate common areas that are available for use as board meeting space and other civic gathering opportunities. To add to the car vandalism, please be reminded that there are people out to steal anything from your porch...including bikes and porch furniture. On Monday night very late, there were people seen riding around the HighlandPark neighborhood ( Wellesley and Farragut) in a white car ( Volvo?) with the trunk lid up filled with stolen porch furniture/ items. Sadly, my neighbors were victims of stolen porch furniture. So make sure your items are secured and be on the lookout for potential would-be thieves. If anyone has any other crime related incidents to report, please continue to post them so we know what is happening in our neighborhood. I am always disappointed to hear of vandalism and other crimes committed on our neighborhood, but I feel better knowing about them. Lori and Fred Rongier Farragut St
