These folks are getting around. The same night between 10 pm and 6 am, my car was broken into on DeVictor Place, stuff thrown around, and $10 taken from the glove compartment. None of my other very valuable (HAHA) possessions were taken. They say a woman's car is like her purse and carries her life. I also want to say THANKS to the many neighbors who came running out of their houses to try to help and who gave support as we were waiting for the police to arrive. Enricos's Tazza d'Oro celebrates the Tour de France and Bastille Day on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at 6:00 pm. The celebration will feature a cookout with Fred Rongier's authentic French crepes, cheeses and sausages, but also standard frankfurters and hamburgers. Msr. Rongier is a professional crepe maker who lives in the neighborhood. As is customary at this kind of event at Enrico's, complimentary sangria will be provided. [Highland Park] East End Historical Tour at E-Fest - TODAY!

Yesterday I took an hour-long historical trolley tour of "East Liberty" (according to its former definition, which includes Point Breeze, Lincoln-Larimer, Homewood, and Highland Park). The tour will be offered again today as a part of E-Fest at 2:00 pm and at 4:00 pm for just $2. I strongly encourage you to take the tour if you interested in the history of our area. I apologize for the late notice, but I did not know about it until yesterday afternoon, when I visited E-Fest. The tour visits historical sites of Pittsburgh's East End, including a log house that was built in 1794 and still stands on a quiet Lincoln-Lemington street, although the house is somewhat camouflaged. [Highland Park] More incidents!

Hi all, I've lived in Highland Park for about 6 years. Up until about last Fall, I've enjoyed a relatively quite and peaceful life here. Last fall started a string of incidents that have been both nuisances and criminal. Kids have taken fall decorations from my porch and ripped off winter lights. Over the Winter, some one threw bricks and a paint can into my new pool, destroying the winter cover and ruining the liner. My roommate's car was broken into recently and my neighbors car was stolen. I'm sure it's the same group of kids who have no regard for other peoples property or respect for authority. I've installed more lighting and am planning on getting a camera system to hopefully catch these thugs in the act. The previous writer was also correct in the advise of not leaving anything of value in your cars and keeping them locked, even in your driveway or garage. I truly believe if my roommate had used her club, her car wouldn't have been broken into. Finally, get involved in the community group and/or a block watch. I plan to!!! Thanks for letting me vent. [Highland Park] The stone wall on Bunkerhill Street

Have you noticed the stone wall along the entrance to the Park along Bunkerhill Street? For a while, there has been a section that is in disrepair. Although I noticed it, I did not realize that it had been like that for such a long time. I would like to thank a neighbor (Thanks Faith) who sent me a note about the situation. I spoke with Damon Blankenship, who is in charge of the Park maintenance for City Parks. Mr Blankenship informed me about the situation. Apparently, the damage was done by a car driven by some Peabody students. The City is waiting to get a settlement from the auto insurance company to pay for the repairs to the wall. The contractor has been out to look at the damage, and has given the City an estimate of the cost. The matter is tied up in "legal" between the City and the insurance company. Mr Blankenship did not know how long it would be before the repairs were made. That is all the information that I have at this time. I will let you know if I find out anything else about getting this damage repaired. Bob Staresinic

Dear Highland park neighbors, We have had the delight of hosting a young girl, Mathilde, from France stay with us last year for four months and this summer for one month. We have developed a wonderful relationship with her family and have recently found a home for the girlfriend of her brother with the Kolerics on Browning road. Her name is Florence and she is 19 years old. She is desperately seeking ways to earn some money so that she can do some traveling while she is here. She is available for babysitting, petsitting, watering plants for vacationers, etc. If you have any jobs that you can throw her way, please contact me and I will forward to Florence.
