We are new to Highland Park and need recommendations for a cleaning lady. We would prefer someone who works independently and not through an agency. Pardon my cynicism, but as a lawyer and a person intimately familiar with the workings of Pittsburgh government, let me assure you that if the errant motorist had insurance coverage, the insurer settled this claim almost as fast as it was asserted and the money has long since been mis-used by the city's irresponsible administration. You have been routinely lied to, which is the modus operandi of Pittsburgh municipal mis-government. Actually, the city does a horrible job of asserting and following up claims for damage to city property, unlike, for example, power and telephone companies who very systematically assert and follow up claims against motorists who collide with the utility poles that jump out in front of them (really, that's what one motorist claimed, much like the tree that jumped in front of Sonny Bono). The wall will get repaired when enough neighborhood residents make a big enough stink and our council representative gets activated (probably in an election year). That's how city government here works. To Our Highland Park Neighbors: My wife and I are searching for a child care expert to take care of 14 week old baby (current age) either in our home, or in someone's home, or a live-in arrangement (free rent). We currently have a wonderful young woman who will be returning to college in mid-August and are looking for someone to start about August 15th. We are looking for someone who is interested in 25-35 hours/week with the majority of the time being during the day but may need a few hours of evening care. My wife is a professor at the University of Pittsburgh School and of Social Work and I am Director of Policy for the Pennsylvania Department of Community Economic Development (I am in Harrisburg 4 days/week). We live in the 5700 block of Elgin Street. If any of our wonderful Highland Park neighbors are interested or know someone who is interested in this opportunity please contact us.
