Hi all. Does anyone in the Highland Park neighborhood do minor bicycle repairs/adjustments either professionally or as a hobby? I know about the various bike shops nearby (gatto's, etc.), but if there is anyone in the neighborhood who is handy with bikes, I'd prefer to give him or her the business. Thanks! [Highland Park] Contractor list available

Dear Mary Louise, You did such a nice job with your contractor list. In fact, I just used someone on it tonight when my light started to spark. I received so many recommendations for computer fixers in response to my posting. It was quite overwhelming. I was wondering if that might be something you'd like to include in your book. Technically, it's not a contractor, but it does relate to things that need fixing, and it is so easy to become overwhelmed when we don't know where to turn. Or perhaps you's like to start a separate list for that sort of thing. I'd do it myself, but I find it a bit overwhelming. Please let me know and I can forward you a list of those who responded. [Highland Park] possible computer internship/tutoring job-Microsoft Access/Visual Basic

I had such an overwhelming response to my posting for a computer guru, I thought I'd try to throw this one out there. I work at Duquesne University, and I had someone assisting me in Microsoft Access Programming. He started out as an unpaid intern which turned into a paying part-time job. He finished today, and I need someone to replace him. Unfortunately, the position does not pay what I.T. people are paid out in the community. If this turns into a paying position, the maximum rate would be $7.00/hr for undergraduate students, $7.50 for bachelor's degrees and $8.00 for graduate degrees. Occasional tutoring would also be required. The position requires experience with Microsoft Access and Visual Basic, and willingness to work both as a team and independently, and the ability to learn independently. [Highland Park] PC gurus thanks

Thank you to all of the neighbors who stepped in and offered support and suggestions. I was surprised and pleased at the large response I received. However, I am a little overwhelmed at the time it will take to respond by email. Since time is a premium for me, I would be most appreciative if those of you who are offering help could please call me and we could speak interactively. It will be much more efficient to detemine the best way for me to proceed next. My cell phone is 412-215-9631. Feel free to call it 24 hours... we shut it when we go to sleep. You can call me this week at work (412-396-6039), but then I will be on vacation. We'll be going to Florida from August 4 to August 16. I'll be returning to work on August 23. The cell phone is on on the weekends after we get up and most evenings after work. Otherwise, you can leave a voice mail. We're night people, so we usually stay up past midnight. I am looking forward to meeting some of you. Now if only I had such a large response to my plea for musicians!... :-)

My Volunteer Singing group still needs a tenor and an accompanist. We are a friendship-based social group who rehearses and performs for the teamwork, camaraderie and joy of music, not for money. We are a small semi-professional choral group, who sings in nursing homes, shelters, etc. I can offer free training in sight-singing for anyone interested. A small stipend may be possible for the accompanist on occasion, but for tax, copyright, and philosophical reasons, we prefer a volunteer. Are there any computer gurus out there who can help troubleshoot PC software/windows problems? Or could someone recommend a service that is reasonably priced and well-trained and highly competent? We''ve dealt with many services and generally we've wound up spending a fortune. Worse, not only can they not fix the problem, but they have generally introduced more problems.

[Highland Park] Preschool Playgroup

Toddlin Time, a State Licensed Daycare located at 5806 Bryant Street will be starting a Preschool Playgroup for children 3 to 5 years of age in September. The children will meet 3 days a week from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. They will enjoy Circle Time where we will dance, sing and learn about each other, the weather, special events and more. We will also have an Arts & Crafts period, Free Time where the children can play with Toddlin Time's fine assortment of toys and games, and munch on a nutitious snack.
