[Highland Park] Another car window shot out ... and 911 tried to brush us off!

Earlier tonight -- 10.50p or so -- we heard the sound of breaking glass as a car passed our home on Jackson Street. A car parked on the street near our house had its back window broken out. How? Don't know. We called 911 and the dispatcher told us that there was nothing they could do because we are not the owners of the car. When I pushed back and told the dispatcher that the Zone 5 commander instructed us to call 911 when incidents occur in the neighborhood, I got a big sigh and "Okay, I'll send someone around." Great response 911! I also called the Zone 5 non-emergency number and reported the incident (and the 911 experience) to the officer who answered the phone. He seemed shocked at the 911 dispatcher's disregard and said he'd send someone over. Two officers arrived about 11.10p and took a report from my neighbor's guest. No idea whether the officers came a result of the 911 dispatch or the good folks at Zone 5, but my money is on the latter.

[Highland Park] Highland Park Residential Historic District

Highland Park Neighbors, The Highland Park neighborhood is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the "Highland Park Residential Historic District"! I'll get some details on the web site this weekend. National Register designation is a big honor for our neighborhood. It also increases the financial incentives for some private property owners to maintain the historic character of the Highland park neighborhood. The Highland Park Community Development Corporation began the nomination process back in 1995 with surveys of over 1,300 structures, documentation of their historic qualities (both social and architectural), and an evaluation of significance by local, state, and federal preservation professionals. Highland Park residents David Hance, Charlie Uhl, & Mike Eversmeyer played a big role in getting the listing. No doubt big thanks should go to others as well. (My excuse for omitting anyone is that this started well before I was involved in the neighborhood :) The announcement was in this week's listing notice on the National Register of Historic Places web site: <http://www.nps.gov/nr/listings/20070907.HTM> Keep in mind: * Under Federal law, private property owners can do anything they wish with their National Register-listed property, provided that no Federal license, permit, or funding is involved. * Owners have no obligation to open their properties to the public, to restore them, or even to maintain them, if they choose not to do so. * Federal agencies whose projects affect a listed property must give the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation an opportunity to comment on the project and its effects on the property. * Owners of listed properties may be able to obtain Federal historic preservation funding, when funds are available. I advertised an Apple Keyboard, mouse, and Airport Express for sale. The keyboard and mouse are sold. I realized that many may not know what an Airport Express is. It's a personal Wi-Fi, wireless connection, that is excellent if you want to use a laptop anywhere within 150 feet of the tiny unit that fits in an electical outlet.(You can also take this unit with you when you travel.) Hello: parents who never have date night or people who need a day or two a week of childcare, I have moved back to the Burg and am looking to care for children in your home in Highland Park. I have raised two of my own, have nannied, taught preschool and many other ages as well. I can do many evenings also, but not Tuesday, Friday or Jewish Holidays. My only physical restriction is heavy lifting and that includes children.
