hi neighbors. As always, I'm looking for help with my two children. First, I would love to have some neighborhood girls and/or guys who would be available on weekend evenings and some weeknights on a sporadic basis. Secondly, and more importantly, I could use someone as an emergency back-up for sick kids during the week. This could be a little extra income for a stay-at-home mom or a retired person who is around the neighborhood most days. This might entail me calling you the night before, or having the school call during the day if someone falls ill. My children are fairly healthy and don't get sick often, but it's bound to happen. [Highland Park] Firing Range MEETING WED 9/5

Some of you may have already received a (paper flyer) message from Bill Rago that the Police Training Academy will be holding a meeting with interested members of the community concerning changes in the current schedule of use of the firing range on Washington Blvd. Bill handed out his flyer to folks living in the 1200 blocks of Heberton and Winterton, but the noise from the range affects many other people in the community, both at their homes, and as they use the Reservoir, the softball field, the Farmhouse playground, and the pool and tennis courts, so I thought I would spread the word via this HPCC d-list. As many of you know, there is a long history of successful resolution of the problems with the firing range, and active community concern and input was essential in finding a balance between the needs of the Training Academy and those of the neighborhood. It is hoped that this upcoming Public Meeting will serve a similar purpose. The meeting will be held at the Police Academy, on Washington Blvd. , at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, Sept 5. (Entrance to the parking light is just north of the Negley Run traffic light) I have attached an article I wrote a couple of years ago summarizing the issues surrounding the use of the Firing Range. It comes with 4 chairs that have apolstered seat bottoms. It is for sale at a very reasonalble price, and she is very anxious to sell. Photos are availble as well. Hi all - Change one letter, and Labor Day can become Arbor Day! A generous colleague gave me 5 healthy little evergreens - spruce, I think? - and I have use for 2 of them. If you're interested in an addition to your yard, please come by and claim one, or email me and have me save one (or more). They'll need to be planted soon, since they've been out of the ground for about a week (I just got them yesterday). Each tree is between 4'-6' tall and is conical in shape, just like a Christmas tree. The trees will be sitting behind the hedges in my front yard - 912 Farragut St. Please help them find a good, new home. Thanks! Helen
