Hello All ! Just a reminder about the activities going on tomorrow here in Highland Park. We are have having the Highland Park Yard Sale beginning at 9am, the Bryant Street Festival kicks in at noon and goes until 6pm, and the Union Project Community Days go from 9am until 2pm. We have over 140 households conducting yard sales this year. There are some streets with ten or more sales on them, but don't overlook our side streets. Some of the most interesting items being offered are tucked away in these off-the-beaten-path locations. So get out and walk around the neighborhood. There are treasures to be found. For those of you who are participating in the yard sale, don't forget to stop by my home at 5714 Elgin to pick up your yard sale signs and balloons. If any of you reading this are subscribed to other community email distribution lists, please forward this note to them. The yard sale success is tied to how well we get out the word to the larger community. Thanks! We have a strong neighborhood in Highland Park. Tomorrow is going to be a visible demonstration of our community pride and energy. Please take the opportunity to get out and see what is going on. Enjoy yourselves!

[Highland Park] Getting exicited for the Festival

Hi Neighbors I am getting excited for the Yard Sale and Festival taking place tomorrow, Sunday June 7th. The weather looks to be great! I am involved in organizing the festival, but mostly getting the application completed, hanging signs, and other stuff like that. Others are organizing the bands and artists that will be there. So as I find out what is going to be happening at the Festival, I am getting more and more excited. First, did you hear the weather is going to be beautiful? We have about 20 artists/craftspeople who are selling their stuff, and most are from Highland Park. Plus we have some non-profits, like the East End Historical Society, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, and the Sierra Club. Then there are a bunch of musical acts on stage, including the Dilworth African Drummers. It will be great to see kids involved in this, and they are from one of our local schools. They start at Noon, so be there early. Fulton is the HPCC partner in this festival, so they will be doing some fun stuff with games and crafts. And we have someone from the Union Project demonstrating clay throwing (if that is what it is called). Several of the local businesses will be selling food also. Tambellini's and the Smiling Banana Leaf will have tables out. Also, the newest restaurant, which is not even there yet, Park Bruge will be in front of their building at N St Clair and Bryant. Come and welcome them, and let them know what we want in a Bryant Street restaurant. Plus I will be there to answer all your questions about Highland Park! So it will be a wonderful day on Bryant Street. The Yard Sale starts at 9 am, so get your maps then. And the Festival runs from Noon to 6 pm, and you will have plenty of time to enjoy Bryant Street after getting all your bargains. Did I mention that I was excited about tomorrow? Hi, My name is Lela and I just moved here from Baltimore. I am staying with my sister Kathryn on King Avenue and I have lost a kitty. When I packed my truck in Baltimore, my neighbor's kitty must have wandered onto the truck without my knowledge. When I unpacked the truck here in Highland Park, he jumped out and took off. He is black and white, is wearing a red collar with no tag and possibly a bell, and his name is Ringo. My Baltimore neighbors children are absolutely heart broken and so am I. If there is anyway he can be scooped up and taken home temporarily, I would be eternally grateful. He is very sweet but timid. I am praying that he can be returned to his family in Baltimore. Hi everyone, I've posted on here a little while ago and wanted to thank everyone for their responses. there's a good chance there are a few that might have gotten lost in the mix and if i didn't have the opportunity to respond to you directly, i apologize. many of the responses i got back were from those of you looking for more occasional help, which i'm always more than willing to be considered for. however, i am currently looking to leave my full time job in anticipation of starting graduate school at Pitt for my MSW in the fall and am looking for something who needs help more in the range of 20-40 hours a week for the summer, and then maybe going down to part time or occasional in the fall. if any of you are looking for a summer babysitter for 20-40 hours a week, i'd love to talk to you more. below are my credentials i listed before. please feel free to contact me via email or phone at 412.874.8231. Highland Park and beyond friends, My daughter Kate, who turns 16 in August, is going into the 11th grade at Oakland Catholic in the fall. She is now out of school. She is looking for summer work. She is very good with children and has been asked to help in the bible school program at our church next week. If anyone is interesting in her babysitting, dog walking, sitting with a senior citizen or helping around the house, she is available. She even can cut your grass or plant a garden!
