[Highland Park] Still excited about the Festival, but a little hungry

Hello again neighbors The Festival on Bryant Street was a lot of fun, but I guess we did not plan the food portion very well. We asked the local businesses to sell food, and some of them did, but we did not really ask what they were going to sell. The food was good, but ran short. We did not have all the traditional "festival" food. And we did not make sure there was "kid-friendly" food. As one of the organizers, I would like to hear some feedback about what we should and should not do in coming years with the Festival. What we did this year was put the word out, asking for participants from Highland Park (which spilled over into the East End) to sell arts and crafts. And we asked the local businesses if they would sell food. We then gave them a table and said "welcome". We did not really ask specifics on what they were selling (from the artists or food folks). So for next year, I know we need to ask and arrange for more food selection, even if we have to look outside the neighborhood. But I would still like to hear any feedback (positive or negative) about the entire Festival: time of day, length, kids activities, food, adult activities, artists, non-profit organizations, how the event was laid out, number of tables and chairs available, anything else you can think of. Should we do the Festival in conjunction with the Yard Sale again? There were many folks involved in pulling this Fesitval off, and I dont want to give the impression that I was in charge of this. Kelly Vitti, Ethan Winograd, Kevin Bivins, Doug Khorey, Nevena Staresinic, and Jana Finder and I met over several months to organize the Festival. There were many volunteers who helped set up and take down chairs and tables and clean up, and we appreciate that help. Lee Gross (who beautifully renovated the building in the 5800 block of Bryant) provided power for the stage and sound system. Food Glorious Food provided electricity and water for the Union Project to teach how to use a throwing wheel (I really should have asked Saeeda and John how to phrase this). Tambellinis brought out sausages and Park Bruge introduced themselves to the neighborhood. Folks seemed to be enjoying the weather, music, crafts, and hanging out on Bryant Street. Skiiing is unlikely to have been on your mind today, but I'm clearing out half a dozen or so complete sets of skis, bindings, poles, and a couple of large ski bags. (As usual, I forgot to signup for the yard sale). I'll put them out on the curb tomorrow, but I thought I'd try the direct exchange process via this d-list first. Fisher, dynastar, etc. Mid-range stuff, mainly purchesed about 10 years ago (pre-parabolic skis), but not used much at all. In very good shape. Sizes of prior users range from 5-5 to 6-2. And if its a worthy cause ... like a high school ski club, or ymca or boys and girls club ..they are yours for the taking. If you want to see them before tomorrow, reply asap. -David Klahr
