Neighbors, Come on out for a Walk in the Woods (the park) on Wednesday evening, July 14, 2010 at 6:30pm. We start at the fountain, walk in the woods as much as we can, and end back at the fountain about an hour later. Map showing the location of the Highland Park fountain: http://goo.gl/maps/ocFa The July walks are a little different from the rest: we will hear about an update to the Regional Parks Master Plan with specific topics for Highland Park including rediscovering lost landscape assets, amenities and connections. The walk is fun for everyone but keep in mind that paths and steps in the park can be uneven. [Highland Park] summary of window recommendations

Thanks to everyone who provided info for window replacement. Two years ago I replaced the windows in another house with Pella Impervia series. I chose Impervia because they were recommended by Consumer Reports and I was very happy with the result. The customer service was wonderful, the windows were great. If I didn't have so many windows in this house I would use Pella (Monroeville) again. Per many requests, below are the recommendations I received from the list: "Thermo Twin window company is the best I know. Over 20 years ago my mom had them do her whole house. Not one problem. Good quality product & good quality installation. They are in the phone book -- Oakmont / Verona -- somewhere like that. Call them ASAP for an estimate & demo. They have a busy schedule -- I think. They did some of the windows in my home -- once I became a home owner. I wish I'd have had them do ALL of my windows. Product & installation was FAR superior to Pella windows who also did a few of mine." "my contractor is fantastic. H'e busy but may be able to fit you in. paul earnst 412-312-0714" "Please call Tom 412-805-5602. We are ins. and Lic. My windows are direct from the local factory. Please consider" "I havent had to replace a window yet, but Pella is local and they will come and and measure, fit, install.... and well, if you ask for a consult through my non-profit;s website we get 1% of the sale---they do the same with other local non profits too. Beginning Sept. 14 and ending Nov. 16, participants will attend weekly sessions focusing on different City departments and the services they provide to make for a safer, more livable City. City directors will develop their sessions with tours, hands-on demonstrations and fun activities to provide an up-close and personal view of how their department helps to operate the City. [Highland Park] nursing home recommendation

Hi all, My grandmother was just in the Highland Park Care Center here on Highland Avenue for a couple of weeks. I just wanted to say how great they were in taking care of her. It is one of the most highly rated facilities in the area per the Medicare website and it really shows in the attitude of the staff. They were very caring, responsive to our needs and provided very personalized attention. Our family came to realize how important continuity of care is when a person requires multiple hospitalizations, rehab, and long-term care. HPCC has a number of doctors who make rounds there who also practice at UPMC Shadyside, West Penn and LifeCare. It also makes a huge difference for the caregiver to have facilities close at hand when you want to make frequent visits. If you ever have a need for skilled nursing care, I highly recommend this facility.

[Highland Park] For Sale: MOUNTAIN BIKE: 2005 Gary Fisher, Tassajara Genesis (women's specific)

Dear Neighbors, I'm selling my 2005 Gary Fisher, Tassajara Genesis mountain bike. I bought it here from a neighbor ~1 month ago, and, though I LOVE the bike, it is JUST TOO BIG for me, and since it's a mountain bike, it isn't well-suited for road commuting, which is what I was using it for (though I have to say, I LOVE the shocks over these Pittsburgh potholes ;-) I've ridden it *<* 5 times in the past month that I've owned it. I'm reselling it for $550. I had it tuned up and new pedals put on (one side of the pedals are flat for regular shoes, the other side clips into biking shoes) at Trek Bicycles (a great bike shop!)--so it's all greased up and ready to go! It's a really sweet ride. I wish I had time to do some * real* mountain biking (Negley Ave doesn't count ;-) You can see the specs on the Gary Fisher webpage archives: http://fisherbikes.com/bike/archivemodel/178 >From the previous owner: "It only got moderate and infrequent use as a mountain bike. I never rode it in the city or on pavement, so the tires are in pretty good shape. This is a good bike for someone who needs to replace a mountain bike or get into mountain biking, but who doesn't want to spend retail money. " Summary: --17.5" frame (will fit a person 5' 8" and shorter...caveat-->I am 5"4 and it was a bit big for me) --Deore and Deore LX components (which are much better than average components) --Dual suspension fork (bottom up and top down suspension makes for a cushy ride; you can lock out all suspension as well). --Smaller hand grips and a shorter top tube for its size make this a women's specific bike; it's still a hard core mountain bike. --Comes with SPD pedals. I have an extra pair (brand new) that I can throw in for free. (I still have these extra 'regular' pedals b/c I bought and put the flat/bike shoe pedals on) Becky 412.867.6093
