In addition to hearing about the various departments within the Bureau from members of them, presenters cover topics such as Use of Force and the Pennsylvania Crimes Code. The class is a commitment - 15 sessions at 3 hours each, but well organized and very informative. The next class begins Wednesday, September 1st at the Police Training Academy on Washington Boulevard. Dear Neighbors, Thanks for all your responses about security systems. Here is what I found out: * ADT - $44.95/month for monitoring. Check on specials for free installation, etc. * Guardian – several people use them. One has 2 motion detectors, 3 doors for $42/month. Includes “wireless call service” (so it doesn’t depend on a landline). Another mentioned Field Sales Manager chris Marino (cell 724-741-3595). Ask for promotions (such as “fire awareness protection month”). 3 or 5 year contract. Are open to negotiation. Many neighborhood folks have used them for 20 to 30 years). * SSA (Security Systems of America). No contract or short contract, is willing to take over other systems. * Dietz Electronics. Locally-owned, owner named Rich. No financial details given * Vector. Impressed with salesman. No financial details. another neighbor says cost is $35 or $39 for all doors, including wireless link (no need for landline)

[Highland Park] Abandoned by my "landscaper!"

Help! I hired a landscaper to re-grade/re-seed my front and back yards (with the back yard requiring about 6" of fill). He did the front yard two months ago -- poorly -- and has for all intents and purposes disappeared, refusing to complete the back, which is an uneven, rocky, dirty swamp. I would much appreciate recommendations for a good, reliable landscaper to complete the job.
