Timetables reflecting these changes now are posted on the Authority's website at www.portauthority.org <file:///\\www.portauthority.org> , providing details about individual routes and options for riders. We reluctantly approved these changes because we see no imminent solution to the State's transportation funding shortfall. Had we not reduced 15 percent of service now, we faced the possibility of having to cut at least 35 percent of our service on July 1. But, with a 15 percent reduction in March, we protect our system from more cuts through June 30, 2012. The current 15 percent plan will eliminate 29 routes and significantly reduce service on another 37 routes. This will have a detrimental impact on riders, employers and others throughout the county that benefit from public transportation. We expect to lose an estimated 13,000 daily riders. We have spent the last two years making our system more efficient and productive, so there are few underutilized routes left to cut. Unfortunately, many well-used routes will be discontinued or scaled back. Cutting so much service at this time is not the best solution. However, Port Authority -- like all transit agencies in Pennsylvania -- relies on state funding to balance its budget. Our State funding levels have been stagnant and, this year, were reduced by millions of dollars. That reduction was caused by the Federal government's decision to not approve tolling on Interstate 80. The tolling proposal was a cornerstone of the State's Act 44 transportation funding program. The impact is felt from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh by road, bridge and public transportation systems. We know these reductions will be difficult. The impact won't be felt on just one route -- rather, it's a hit that will be felt in many communities and by thousands of riders. This is what happens when transit funding falls short of the actual demand for public transportation. We certainly hope this is a temporary situation and that we'd be able to restore some of this service if a statewide funding solution eventually is found. ### This email and any files transmitted with it are Confidential and solely intended for the recipient(s) . [Highland Park] Scenic Pittsburgh and Scenic America Speak Out in Pittsburgh

Dear Friends of Scenic Pittsburgh, Our sincerest thanks go to Mary Tracy, the Director of Scenic America for coming to Pittsburgh this week to help deliver our message. Mary and Mike Dawida went on a whirlwind tour of media outlets including KQV-AM, KDKA-AM, WDUQ,-FM, WNMY-AM, WJAS-AM, WSHH-FM, PCNC-TV Night-Talk, and WPXI-TV News. These interviews will be broadcast several times over the next few days. Also, they were interviewed by the Pittsburgh City Paper (to appear Feb 23), the Post-Gazette (www.post-gazette.com/pg/11048/1125967-53.stm) and the Tribune-Review who wrote about an especially informative article about other efforts to restrict billboards in our region (www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/pittsburgh/s_723493.html) We cannot emphasize how important it is to participate in "government by the people". The Pittsburgh Planning Commission will have a public hearing at 200 Ross Street, February 22 at 2:00 PM where citizens can speak out about the proposed electronic billboard ordinance. Like tobacco salesmen, representatives from the billboard industry will be there to convince the Commission that billboards are good for the health of the City. Contact your local councilman or councilwoman and tell them how you feel about billboards in your neighborhood. Again, thank you Mary Tracy.
