The maintenance guys at the park, Jack and Rich, asked me to put this information out to the neighborhood in a completely unofficial capacity. The situation as it was told to me goes like this: There are a couple cats who are living near the super playground. The cats are being fed by someone, but with winter coming, there is concern that these cats might become feral. (I confess I have very little understanding of this so if this doesnt add up, I apologize. Don't shoot the messenger please. ) The project would involve someone coming to the superplayground with "humane traps" to capture these cats and take them to the humane society. It is imperative that the traps be attended at all times. So the idea is that someone come up there in the morning, open a can of tuna and wait. If the cats dont show up, take the traps away and come back another day. The main idea is you cant leave the traps there. I am communicating this in a completely unofficial capacity as a favor to these guys who do such a nice job maintaining the park for us. My mother-in-law recently relocated to Pittsburgh and is very interested in Scrapbooking. She's having a hard time finding a group or 'crop' friends to scrapbook with locally. Is there a group in Highland Park or close by that she can join? She would also be interested in starting her own group if there is anyone out there looking as well. Hi - I found a set of blue bags at a dollar store (the large Dollar Store in Verona, in the shopping center with the Giant Eagle). You usually can find them at grocery stores, too. Now that many of us take our own re-usable bags to grocery shop, we don't seem to have anything to use to recycle our stuff with the city. Some have tried to use the blue bins but apparently they get stolen quickly. While I can't officially speak for the city, I noticed that they have taken cardboard boxes full of plastic, etc. when a neighbor has left recycling out like that. I have followed suit and so far they have always taken it. I wanted to offer it as a suggestion and also if you run out of boxes, it's easy to get them from local vendors. Whenever I go to a smaller shop (just seems easier to request from them rather than, say, a busy Giant Eagle) I ask for boxes and they are more than happy to give me their broken down boxes. This may do double good as I've noticed that many businesses in the city don't tend to recycle. So if you do this, you may be helping re-use cardboard boxes which might otherwise have gone in the regular trash. (City businesses not recycling is another issue. They tend to have private companies deal with their trash. The last time I did office work for a company in the city I inquired as to whether the private refuse company we used would recycle if we separated the trash. They said that wasn't part of their normal operation (REALLY I THOUGHT RECYCLING WAS MANDATORY BY LAW IN PGH?) but they would possibly do so for extra $. It seems this needs improvement.) This is a stand-up desk I bought from the Oklahoma City train station thirty years ago when it was being closed down. It had been there longer than anyone there could remember, and was described as being, variously, the trainmaster's desk, the Wells Fargo desk, or the Pony Express (?!) desk. The drawers work fine, and it has some cracks and nicks but is perfectly sturdy and serviceable. 63 inches long, 42 inches tall at the front, 45 at the back. Pretty bulky, obviously, but light enough to move pretty easily. $500 This is a nice Hoosier style cabinet that we no longer need as we are selling the house. It has the brass "Hoosier" tag, but the person we bought it from was careful to say he did not believe it was an actual Hoosier. It has what you see, and all the shelves/hardware are in place, but there is no flour bin or glass canisters. Very good condition-quite presentable. 2 pieces, but still heavy as lead. $250 Andrew E. [Highland Park] found - cell phone

We found a cell phone submerged in water in the gutter on the east side of Highland Avenue after last evening's Reservoir of Jazz concert in the park. We brought it home to dry out and it seems to be working intermittently. (Still drying out.) If you lost a cell phone, identify it and it's yours again. Lori Kasenter
