[Highland Park] Idling buses and trucks

Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done about idling buses and trucks? Yesterday afternoon a bus idled on the corner of N Highland and Grafton for about 20 minutes. This morning a delivery truck from Reliable Appliance Installation idled at the corner of Highland and Bryant and filled my house with exhaust fumes for about an hour. Both of these days were ozone action days. [Highland Park] dog found in Morningside

Hello all, We found a dog last night (8/14) on Stanton Avenue in Morningside around 6pm. She is a mixed breed Brindle, very friendly, with a very frayed leash - she may have been caught somewhere, but is uninjured. My husband and neighbors saw signs for a missing Chihuahua/Boxer mix over the weekend and she seems to fit the description. We tried asking around both Morningside and Highland Park last evening, and it was thought that she was lost at the dog park. She is at our home, and is being well cared for - we are just hoping to find her family. If you have any information, please contact me at 412-526-5229. Thank you, Kristen Cihon

[Highland Park] Origins of the Petroleum Industry in Western Pennsylvania -- Landmark Events

The development of the Pennsylvania oil industry will be designated a National Historic Chemical Landmark by the American Chemical Society (ACS) in two ceremonies later this month. On Aug. 26, the construction by Samuel Kier of the first still to refine oil into kerosene will be honored at the John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh. On Aug. 27, a plaque commemorating the drilling by Col. Edwin Drake of the first successful oil well will be presented to the Drake Well Museum in Titusville, Penn. Thomas H. Lane, Ph.D., president of the Society, will present the plaque to each of the recipients. “The construction of the first still and the drilling of the first oil were certainly transforming achievements for chemistry and chemical engineering,” Lane says. ”Our lives, our history and modern society as we know it were changed immeasurably, and in ways unimaginable 150 years ago. “Our community as well as the entire country should be proud of the legacy of invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship by the pioneers of the oil industry represented by Samuel Kier and Edwin Drake,” said Pennsylvania state Representative Scott Hutchinson (R-Venango/Butler). “Their visions of how a previously ignored, seeping black liquid could be chemically refined into so many useful products has changed modern life incalculably in the last 150 years.” The American Chemical Society is a non-profit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress. With more than 154,000 members, ACS is the world’s largest scientific society and a global leader in providing access to chemistry-related research through its multiple databases, peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. Dear all, Our cat wandered off this morning. He's a skinny black and white cat. Black body, white chest w/ very long whiskers. He's a total lover/snuggler: He'll jump into anyone's arms, loves to be pet, and will try to sit up on a shoulder if given the opportunity. a rep from the w pa conservancy has advised against planting these, especially anywhere near the park. they are aggressive invasive and will suppress natural tree proliferation, if i understand this correctly. sorry.jon

The weekend is almost here! Are you cleaning out the basement or the garage this weekend? If you are please hold onto anything along the lines of old Carpets, Curtains, Drapes, and Fabrics... I need them to sound proof a room that will be used for musical equipment. The idea is to cover all the walls with a thick layer of soft materials so that most of the noise is cut down.
