Hi! My husband and I love living in highland park however we're moving from our current place which we also love by the way but we need to lower costs!! If any of you have information about a 2BR or 3BR house/apartment for rent in a range up to $750 with laundry hook-ups, dog friendly (we have a small Maltese - housebroken btw-), satellite TV allowed... it would be EXTREMELY appreciate it!!! [Highland Park] Walks in the Woods - Summer 2007 (REMINDER)

Let's take a walk in the park! The first "Walk in the Woods" of summer 2007 is this week--Wednesday, June 1, 2007 at 6:30 pm. Meet at the restored fountain and gardens on Reservoir Drive near the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Bunkerhill Street. The current weather forecast looks pretty nice, but when planning what to wear keep in mind that paths in the park can be uneven and/or muddy. The exact route we take depends on who shows up. If you plan to bring a baby, I suggest using something like a Baby Bjorn instead of a stroller. Please arrive promptly at 6:30 pm so we can begin the walk as scheduled. There is no need to RSVP. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy sponsors these walks in the four major Pittsburgh Parks. Each walk is led by volunteer docents who can tell you about what's going on in the park, park history, and can talk about the many different types of plants you'll see in the parks. The next walk in Highland Park is scheduled for August 1. The schedule for the other parks is as follows: Frick: June 13, July 11, & August 8; Riverview: June 20, July 18, August 18; and Schenley: June 27, July 25, & August 22. We are planning special Sunday Walks in the Woods in September with a special focus on park and area history. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 5801 Hampton Street, Pittsburgh (Highland Park) Adult Programs, Focus on Jesus: Jesus and the Political World Sunday, June 10, 4 p.m. Two weeks ago at St. Andrew's New Testament scholar Dr. Ken Bailey reviewed the biblical record in a wonderful and creative exploration of the political impact of Jesus' words and actions in the context of First Century Roman Palestine--and with implications for every era and locale. Last week we saw again the wonderful film "Becket" and enjoyed a rich discussion of the clash of "church and state" in that famous story from English history. This Sunday, June 10, at 4 p.m., we are invited to a Round Table Forum, where each of us will be invited, as we wish, to share how our understanding of the themes and values of our Christian life has affected our approach to politics and government. We know at St. Andrew's that we will have a diversity of perspectives and life-experiences to share, and we look forward to an interesting and challenging gathering in a spirit of openness, curiosity, and mutual respect. After we've gone "around the table" with discussion and response, we'll move on to a Sherry Hour, with refreshments and more informal continuing conversation. All are welcome! Concluding Note: KDKA Political Reporter Jon Delano was originally scheduled to speak at this event. His schedule changed, and he won't be able to be with us. However, we are pleased to note in anticipation that Jon has accepted our invitation to be our featured speaker at the 10th annual St. Andrew's Lecture, this coming October 12. Thursday, June 7, 8 p.m. Choral Evensong and Recital St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 5801 Hampton Street, Pittsburgh (Highland Park) The final "First Thursday" service and recital before the summer choir vacation will include the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in F Major by John Ireland, Responses by Philip Radcliffe, and for the Anthem, H. Balfour Gardiner's "Evening Hymn." The Musical Recital following the service will feature our good friend, popular Pittsburgh actress and singer Dixie Tymitz. A festive dessert reception will follow. Hi neighbors, Thanks for all of the responses! For a neighborhood tailor, there were multiple, multiple positive endorsements for Augie, the tailor on Bryant Street. Some other suggestions include Rocky the Tailor on Liberty Ave in Bloomfield, and for bridesmaid dresses in particular, Clarissa's on the Southside, or the New Oakland Tailor on Meyran Avenue in Oakland. Some phone numbers are below. Thanks everyone! Jamie For a bridesmaid dress, I would go to Clarissa Boutique on the South Side. They are slow, though. So allow plenty of time.412-432-329917th St. and East Carson St I had a dress suit taken in / sleeves shortened, other garments altered ... fair price, timely, good job by "Rocky the Tailor" at 5105 Liberty Avenue at Winebiddle (I think)... this side of Shadyside Honda... 412-682-5265 I don't have a recommendation in Highland Park, but I would highly recommend the New Oakland Tailor in Oakland on Meyran Avenue. The gentleman there is extremely talented and does all kinds of work -- including an enormous amount of alterations to a friend's bridesmaid dress. The wrong size was ordered, and she needed it to be taken in literally three sizes -- and it was beautiful. There was no way of knowing it wasn't the original dress from the store!
