[Highland Park] Evensong & Recital for Twelfth Night

A "First Thursday at St. Andrew's" service of Choral Evensong, followed by musical recital, on the Eve of the Feast of the Epiphany, Thursday, January 5, at 8 p.m. The service will be sung by St. Andrew's Choir, under the direction of Peter J. Luley. The recital will be presented by Highland Park neighbor Charlotta Klein Ross, who plays cello in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Elizabeth Ross, voice, and Barbara I. Lewis, piano. They will present works by J.S. Bach, Mark Summer, Johannes Brahms, and . . . Charlie Chaplin! All are welcome, and a festive reception will follow in Brooks Hall. Dear Highland Park Friends and Neighbors, Janelle and I have lived in Highland Park for more than 5 years; during that time, we've grown to love our neighborhood in particular and the city in general. However, because I recently received a job offer that would allow us to move closer to family, we have made the difficult decision to put our house (1210 Mellon Street, adjacent to La Foret and across Mellon Street from the Nuin Center) on the market. Christmas Tree Recycling Collection The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC), in partnership with the Union Project, Construction Junction, and the City of Pittsburgh, is hosting a Christmas tree recycling collection on SATURDAY, JANUARY 14, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Emery Tree Service, the event sponsor, will recycle all of the trees into mulch. During that timeframe, individuals are invited to drop off their real Christmas trees at Construction Junction, 214 N. Lexington Street in the Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh. A $1 fee per tree will be charged to help defray the costs of the event. Christmas trees must be free of ornaments and loose or tied with a string when dropped off. Absolutely no trees in plastic bags will be accepted. The National Christmas Tree Association estimates 25-30 million trees are sold in the U.S. each year. My last message had, indeed, a message when it left my server and, likely, when it went through the moderator, but somehow ended up blank after that. Sooooooo, I'm re-sending a modified message ONCE and if this one is blank there's nothing I can do about it. My last message was that I throught it time that the Highland Park listserv be either replaced by, or supplemented by, a forum software package where messages could be separated by subject and would be available to new arrivals, or new participants. I also think that forums would increase participation as not everyone wants to send e-mail to the listserv for 100% distribution, nor would all participants want to receive e-mail on every subject from every participant. One of my favorite forum software packages is vBulletin from Jelsoft ( http://www.vbulletin.com/ ). There is a charge - $165 for a perpetual license and support for one year, and $30 per year thereafter for updates and service. This is pretty cheap for the capabilities it makes available. The issues then, are: (1) does this move have any support among the Highland Park citizenry; (2) who would pay for it and how (how is the present listserv paid for?); and does this require any changes in the server presently used for the listserv, and, if so, would there be a cost involved. Perhaps the moderator or whom ever is involved in maintaining the listserv has some input on this subject. - Jim
