Friends - I have hatched a crackpot idea to turn my dining room into a sitting room. So, I need to sell a dining room suite. It consists of a table with three extra leaves and pads. Table in smallest form is about 45" x 5'. There are six chairs, including one arm chair, presumably for Daddy. The buffet is 66" wide. Finish is dark walnut; don't know what the wood is. The furniture is probably 60 years old or so. Am asking $300.00. Could even throw in a table cloth or two if you catch me after I have had my cappuccino... [Highland Park] House Tour Update

HOUSE TOUR UPDATE from Brigette Nadler The first House Tour Committee Meeting took place on May 11th. The Tour’s theme will be, “Welcome Back to Highland Park”, and it will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2005 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We are proud to announce that the King Estate will be on the tour. The Brown Family has completed restoration of the first floor of their home and graciously accepted the invitation to be placed on the tour. We have met with many other neighbors and are delighted to report that a variety of architectural styles will be represented. Each one of the homes is a gem in their own right which we are happy to include. Aside from signing up homes we are looking for volunteers to work the day of the event. During that eight-hour period there will be two shifts: 10:45 AM to 3:00 PM and 2:45 PM to 7:00 PM. Volunteers will receive a ticket for the tour and will have plenty of time to visit all of the houses. The Tour’s starting point will be St. Andrews Church on Hampton Street. There will be kiosks strategically placed in the neighborhood which will offer a venue for local organizations to fundraise. The construction at the Union Project and the CDC’s (Community Development Corporation) efforts on the 800 Block of Mellon Street will be highlighted. There is much to do from now until October! Some of the activities that you can get involved in are writing copy for the homes in the Tour Program, selling advertising space, promoting the tour on radio, TV and magazines, coordinating with Bryant Street businesses for the day of the event, hang posters and manage the ticket sales. Past tours have sold 500 to 800 tickets, this year the committee is expecting one of the best turnouts Highland Park has ever seen. Are you interested in placing an Ad in the Tour Program? Advertisement sizes and prices can be found by contacting the co-chairs below. Hard copies of ads can be submitted as camera ready artwork. Electronic files (GIF, JPEG, PNG, or TIF) can be emailed to address below. Ads must be purchased and artwork submitted no later than June 30, 2005. If you would like to have your home considered for the tour, interested in working on the Committee or placing an Ad, please contact Brigette Nadler at 412-363-6869 or Amy Maceyko at housetour(a)highlandparkpa.com. Tickets will go on sale soon! They will be $18.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door. More information about ticket sales will be available in a future newsletter. Kittens/ Cat Free To A Good Home About 3 months ago, I offered to foster a beautiful, timid and very pregnant cat. She was roaming the alleys in the cold and I was worried about babies. The time has come for me to find the mom and her two kittens a good home (together or separately). I believe the mom is around 2 years old. The kittens are adorable and about 10 weeks old (a black one and a black and white one). I have littered trained them. Unfortunately with my work schedule and daughters, I simply do not have the time needed to care for my ³foster children² any longer. Sentences: William Smith of Durham Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, in E major, by Herbert Murrill Anthem: "Bring Us, O Lord," by William Harris Recital Following the Service: St. Andrew's 2004-2005 Choral Scholar, baritone Matthew Derby, sings works by Handel, Schutz, Sowerby, and Vaughan Williams. I find myself with 300 square foot garden in Stanton Heights (shared gardens by the cemetary) and nothing to put in it. So, I turn to you...my gardening friends! [Highland Park] Housing Needed

Hello All I have a neighbor on the 900 block of Mellon who recently had a fire in their home. They just found out that they will not be able to move in for 4-6 months while the damage is repaired. Thankfully, no one was injured and all they lost was their stuff. So now they are looking for a place to live while their home is repaired. This is a family with 5 kids, ranging in age from about 16 to about 1 year. If you know of any temporary housing that is available close by, please let me know. I will pass on the information. They want to stay close so that the kids can get to school. Thanks Bob
