[Highland Park] Free sofa and armchair

Howdy, neighbors! We are getting a new sofa and chair Wednesday, and I am seeking a home(or homes) for our old ones ASAP. I am offering them on the neighborhood list first, but if I don't get a response within the next couple of days I will either offer them on Pittsburgh Freecycle or to Salvation Army. So if you have an interest, please respond soon! Our house is smoke-free and dog/cat-free, by the way. Here are the way-too-many details: Sofa: 85" wide, 35" deep, approximately 29" tall at the back (cushions poke up a little higher, but they sit forward of the back piece). It is three cushions across with rolled armrests. It comes with two matching cushions. The covering is a cotton twill/duck with a floral pattern of hydrangeas, peonies and leaves in sage, dark green, tan, light pink, dark pink and cream tones. There are some tears in the cushion covers, but we currently have them hidden by turning them upside down, and there is some fraying on the piping of the cushions. I think that it would do fine in a home without kids, but I don't think that it could survive another 5-year-old boy like mine without a slipcover. I don't know the maker, but I know that my mother-in-law (from whom I inherited it) bought it as a set with the chair, which was made by Broyhill. Excellent napping sofa, by the way. Chair: 33" wide, 38"deep, 31" tall. Very comfortable chair for watching TV. It is wide enough that my 5-year-old and 7-year-old can sit in it side-by-side. The covering is a cotton twill/duck striped in sage green and cream. The cushions and arm rests are in good condition (no fraying or tears), but they have some light staining. It's main problem is that a seam has come undone where the vertical cushion attaches to the hard back of the chair and the stuffing is trying to come out. I'm lazy, so I just keep throw an afghan over the back, but someone could probably tack it back with an upholstery needle and some strong thread. E-mail if you are interested in one or both! [Highland Park] Web site maintenance

The Highland Park web site at <http://www.highlandparkpa.com/> has been updated from CivicSpace (the old download version, not the service) to Drupal proper. Since this was a major Drupal upgrade (4.x -> 5.x) there are minor issues that still need to be addressed (such as that the old theme no longer works--it needs to updated to work with the new code). Another problem is that the old image gallery seems to have disappeared (but the individual images are there) and the month-overview calendars seem to be blank. The Highland Park web site is maintained on a strictly volunteer status. These issues will be addressed as time permits. Rudy

All, Due to problems with the delegation of the pgh.pa.us DNS domain yesterday, I moved the Highland Park Neighborhood list from highlandpark.pgh.pa.us to highlandparkpa.com. The list was out of commission all day yesterday and today until now so I could complete the changes. I apologize for the inconvenience. There are still pending messages for the moderator to consider; I will let him know the list is working again. I moved the Highland Park Neighborhood list to highlandparkpa.com (like the web site) today because there is a problem with the delegation of the pgh.pa.us domain. Everything might not be set up exactly correctly just yet. If not, I'll try to make it all work properly this evening. In any case you will need to update your address book entries (if any) for the list so that it is: neighborhood(a)highlandparkpa.com -Rudy PS: the problem also affects (to various degrees because of the use of alternate domain names) Phipps Conservatory and the Zoo.

[Highland Park] Lock your doors!!

I opened my back door last week to let the cool air in and may have forgotten to close and lock it. In the morning, my keys were missing. I would have never thought that someone had taken them except that two pounds of strawberries--go figure--were missing from the frig. I would have just gotten another set thinking that I misplaced them. I think that there is a group going around at night to find back doors left open or unlocked because it is summertime. They take only keys--except for strawberries--and then come back when the residents have left. It's alot safer for them that way. Needless to say, I changed the locks on all the main doors.
