Hi Neighbors... Was anyone else shocked at their November/December gas bill? Mine was $342.00, and my wife and I were out-of-state except for a few days of that time. The thermostat was set at 55 degrees the whole time. Our water and electric were 50% less than usual. Has anyone noticed all the miscellaneous charges that add up to 36% of the bill? 22% alone for "distribution," or sending the gas thru the pipe. I haven't noticed that there is a shortage of natural gas. Does anyone else care to see if there's something we can do. Of course, Equitable has no competition now, but maybe that can be changed. [Highland Park] Exotic Birds

While walking the other day at dusk, (always looking for the eagle), I spotted a really large bird flying thru the sky. I was, at first thinking, it could be the eagle, but then I noticed it had a long pointed beak and long neck. And of course it had a huge wing span. I believe it was a Great Blue Heron!!! It was so beautiful!!!! Keep your eyes to the skies and maybe you will see something really cool, and not a crow convention!!! Marty Harkins

[Highland Park] Dirt & Eggs

Our home at 817 Mellon Street got hit twice over the last couple of days--- On Saturday evening while entertaining out of town guests here at the house, our front picture window was hit with a plastic pot filled with topsoil. Good thing the pot was just plastic, surely the window would have been smashed. Now this morning, we discovered we got egged again. This will be the third time we've been egged in the last several months. The house next door also got some of this arsenal---getting egg off window screens and brick is very hard. There is a group of young kids hanging out on the stoop of the apartment house next to us and on the corner of Mellon and Jackson--- I am pretty sure they do not live there and they may not be from the neighborhood at all. This same group used to hang out on our steps when we first moved in but we told them to leave. Now they seem to congregate next door, on the corner and up through the 900 block of Mellon Street. Needless to say we are very frustrated, does anyone have suggestions? Happy New Year! Pierina Morelli
