my wife's car was also broken into in front of our house 1105 heberton, 10/15. we're pretty sure it happened between 9-11 am. no damage, things tossed around, a piggy faced change purse full of quarters missing. if anyone happens to find the little piggy change purse, please post.....i'm sure the quarters are gone......rich allen

Our car was broken into on Saturday night between 11pm and 12:30am -- unfortunately the car was unlocked and my purse was stolen, along with everything inside of it (wallet, checkbook, cell phone, keys, etc). Around 12:30am, we heard a neighbor's car alarm and noticed that our motion detector lights were on, as well as the light in the car. We called 911 and filed a police report. The following day a neighbor found my purse (with everything except my wallet) in the park and returned it to me (thank goodness for good neighbors!). It definitely seems like the work of amateurs, and that Heberton and surrounding streets are being targeted. We are certainly being more vigilant and will be calling the police to report *any* suspicious activity. Hopefully these thieves will be caught soon. Just to add to the growing list: I live near Mellon Terrace. Over a month ago our car door was also accidentally left unlocked. Papers were strewn about, but we weren't so lucky because several things were stolen. Even prescription eye glasses and car chargers that obviously can't be used by themselves were taken. We filed a police report but unfortunately we'll never see any of our stuff again. Sherrianne

[Highland Park] Our Bikes Were Stolen

On Tuesday night, myself and my partner's bikes were stolen from our front porch (someone used bolt cutters on the locks). Not that I think it's likely anyone will see them, but for the record, they were: A silver Trek 7.3 FX A silver/white Magna Great Divide So, I don't know - if someone tries to sell you one of these, or something, let me know I guess. [Highland Park] An incident on Heberton Street

This morning when I got in my car that was parked overnight in my driveway I found the contents of the car tossed about. Upon examination, there was nothing missing, as I did not have anything of value except some CDs, which have no street value anymore. I reported this to the police, as I know we are trying to give them as much information about activity in our neighborhood as possible. The door was unlocked, as I must have forgotten to lock it after removing groceries at the end of the day; that will not happen again. I was surprised at this, as when my car is in the driveway it is sandwiched between my house and my neighbors, very close to our windows. A bold move. Martha Schaefer

I live on the corner of Heberton/Jackson, and I park my car in the driveway. My car was broken into sometime either late Tues or early Wed morning. I leave nothing value in my car, and so nothing was taken. My maps, car registration, papers etc were tossed on the floor. I reported it to the police, and thought everyone here should know. As a cop told me after a break in years ago, never leave anything value in the car, either visible or not. And I've followed that advice ever since.

Around 8:50 am this moringin (Oct 15th) a white male, medium build, aprroximately 5"11 was snooping in our backyard, then went into my neighbors backyard before moving down the the 1000 block of Portland (I live on the 1100 block). Luckily two neighbors spotted him. We called the police, but he had already gotten away. he was wearing a Jake Plummer jersey and had a backpack. just wanted to let you know so that you can be on the lookout.
