hey everyone, i know this is a long shot, but i'm grabbing at straws right now. today i was driving in garfield up north aiken ave. from black street and was hit at full speed by someone driving on the wrong side of the street down the hill at at least 70 mph with no attempts to break. when i got out of the car to talk to him, he said he was going to pull over and then sped away. i never got his license plate or any information. the police were called but my car was towed away and i have my doubts that much will come from looking for him. that being said with the damage to the car he was driving, i doubt he got very far. so, what i'm wondering is if he happen to drive into highland park on his way away from the scene and if there's a possibility anyone out there has any kind of information that might be helpful. if so, please let me, and/or the police know. i'm thankful to be physically okay, but i'm looking at a huge expense for something someone else so recklessly did and won't be responsible for and i honestly don't have the money for. he was a black man, probably in his 30's, average build, short hair, wearing a t-shirt and driving an older model blackish/charcoal gray sedan that would have had severe front end damage. thanks in advance for considering this. i hope he didn't go on to hurt anyone else. kelly

HP Neighbors, Many thanks for all of your kind responses -and for putting out all of those "positive thoughts" in the Universe.... On Tuesday morning (between 7a.m.-9a.m.) my bag was thrown into a neighbors open garage!! So strange that the garage was opposite mine....I have graciously thanked them ,as well as the very professional Officer Brown from #5 who came and retrieved the bag from them ,as well as stopped at my home to leave me a note and a message on my phone that my bag was at the station! I am so grateful even though some contents were gone just to have most returned. HIGHLAND PARK IS A WONDERFUL NEIGHBORHOOD OF BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!!!! My husband is unemployed at the moment, so we're very flexible, schedule-wise - just let us know if you'd like to come over and take a look! 1 - Gently Used Full-Size Futon Mattress, charcoal grey cover, very thick with inner spring. $50 obo 2 - King Sized Memory Foam Mattress Topper, "deluxe" model. Used for one night - my husband decided it was too soft, but it came vacuum-packed, so I couldn't get it back into its box, and therefore couldn't return it. Paid $180, selling for $60 obo. Both items are clean, but they do come from a home with cats and ferrets (the ferrets did not have access to either item). If you have allergies, these are probably not for you. They have a small farm stand every Thursday from 4 - 7 in front of the Penn Aiken Dairy on Penn Avenue near Graham St. The produce is organic and varied and lovely. During the winter of 2008 a group from The Open Door Presbyterian Church, in partnership with Valley View Presbyterian Church, began making plans to do organic gardening on abandoned or unused land in East Liberty and Garfield. Our plans focused on beginning the reclamation of nearly three acres near the water tower in Garfield and small scale food production at two smaller gardens, one in Garfield at Valley View Presbyterian Church and one at the Union Project in Highland Park. Our two small gardens were successful teaching tools for community and congregation members. We have also been successful in working with the City of Pittsburgh and the URA in creating a process that will result in the permanent rezoning of nearly three acres of land in Garfield as permanent “Green Space” which will be stewarded by the members of Garfield Community Farm, neighborhood volunteers, and volunteers through our partnership with Open Hand Ministries.
