Not all participants have to speak, if you just want to come along to show support, that's great too. Many legislators were put in office by the campaign dollars of big oil and gas. Only a strong showing of their constituents will remind them of who they represent, who put them in office, and who can vote them out. I just heard from Councilman Dowd's office today that over 60 leases have been signed in Highland Park, of the City of Pittsburgh. I met with his office in February and though voicing objections to drilling, felt no sense of urgency as he seemed to feel it impossible that drilling could occur in his district. Now, he's getting complaints from his constituents who were caught off guard. If it can happen in Highland Park, a densely urban area, don't think your neighborhood is safe. Reach out to your neighbors BEFORE it is too late. Just flew home Sunday from Florida and on the connecting flight from Houston to Pittsburgh, our sold out flight was more than half full of young men who flew in to work a local drilling site. No, I didn't speak to them. I was afraid if I opened my mouth I would say something that would get me beat up in front of my daughter. No joke. With several drilling accidents making the news recently, the recent coal mining tragedy, and the gulf oil spill, I don't think anyone needs reminded that energy companies cut corners in safety all the time. They seem to find it cost effective to pay the fines rather than be safe, and their disaster plans are shoddy. I urge you to check out the documentary on drilling called Gasland which will air on HBO Monday, June 21st. One of the producers, Mollie Gandour, is the niece of the Mulvey family of Highland Park. [Highland Park] Urban Active Update

Hi neighbors, I just wanted to update you on the childcare issues with Urban Active. I talked to the general manager, Matt Custer, yesterday. He said that they do not have plans to expand their childcare at this time. He said that if people continue to complain and cancel their membership because of it, he will make minor changes to the schedule, but this is a few months into the future, if at all. In addition to the limited schedule on weekdays (childcare closed 12-4), they also have an even more restricted schedule on the weekends. I believe it's open 3 hours a day on Saturday and Sundays. Matt is giving refunds to people who signed up for urban active during the preview under the impression that childcare is available during business hours, FYI. Feel free to voice your opinion to Matt when you see him.... Jill
