Hi Neighbors, I am currently a childcare provider at a school and I have discovered that I would much rather care for children in a less stressful home environment, along with being able to give the children more individual attention. I would not only enjoy this more for myself, but I feel that I would be able to provide parents with a better and more healthy service for their children. I would only charge $5/hour for one child ($8.50/hour for two siblings). I live in Highland Park and would be able to care for children in my home, including infants. I would be able to provide safe transportation if needed. I would not allow there to be more than 6 children in my care at a time. I do not have children yet, so all of my attention would be given to your children. The only other adults the children would come in contact with would be my husband and housemate whom both work with children and are both majoring in elementary education. All of us have our child abuse clearances, criminal clearances, and fingerprint clearances up to date. I have a fenced in backyard that attaches to our neighbors' (who have 4 young children) yard. All of the neighbors on our block are young families. I would provide toys, crafts, games, and food and I would have the necessary furniture for infants (crib, highchair, changing table). We also have two extremely kid-friendly dogs, whom are used to the neighborhood children coming over to play with them . I would provide you with more of my previous experience and allow you to contact references, along with meeting with you and your children first. Parents can be confused trying to understand the maze of private, charter and public schools in Pittsburgh. The Highland Park Community Council will be holding a Pittsburgh Public School magnet information session on Thursday 10/21/2010 at 7:30pm at St Andrews Church (5801 Hampton St). This will follow the regular HPCC meeting at 7:00pm. A representative from the Pittsburgh Public Schools will attend to discuss options available to families in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for the 2011-12 school year and how to apply. There are many new developments at the Pittsburgh Public Schools including: · In 2006, only 29% of 5th graders at Fulton (our neighborhood school) were proficient in math. In 2009, 89% are proficient. It’s the highest rate in the city at a public K-5. · A new Mandarin Chinese magnet will open at Linden K-5 in the fall of 2011 for incoming kindergarten students. · Obama International Baccalaureate 6-12 magnet will move to the Peabody Facility in the 2011-2012 school year. Students can pursue a full IB diploma in grades 11 and 12. · The new Sci-Tech 6-12 magnet in Oakland is enrolling students. Also, the Environmental Charter School at Frick Park, which opened its doors in 2008 will be enrolling grade 5 this year. Written materials will be available about the Environmental School. Dear Friends and Neighbors, I just wanted to share that the Onorato for Governor & Organizing for America Campaigns have opened a field office in East Liberty for East Liberty, Highland Park, Morningside and Stanton Heights. They are in need of volunteers, particularly over these next two weekends to make phone calls and visit registered voters. Just walk in anytime between 9 am - 9 pm to learn more or volunteer. Yard signs for Onorato and Sestak are also available.
