Fall high school Student Police Academy registration is now open

If you know a high school student who is interested in law enforcement, criminal justice, or emergency response, here's a great opportunity for them to learn more. See the attached flyer and information from the City's Department of Public Safety below - - I am happy to announce that registration is now being taken for the Fall session of the City of Pittsburgh's Student Police Academy (SPA)! The SPA registration is open until Friday October 4, 2019. Classes begin at 6 PM, Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the Point Park University, 201 Wood Street, Pittsburgh, PA. *Please see the attached flyer & registration form*. The academy is a 3 hour class that meets once a week for 10 weeks. The academy exposes the students to a variety of opportunities that they will experience just as if they were cadets training to be a police officers in the Pittsburgh Police Academy. A student who enrolls in our academy should expect to leave with at least three wonderful experiences! The first experience that the students should expect is to better understand the breadth of the education, understanding of policy and governance of relative statues that factor in the various decisions that police officers have to make only a daily basis...often within "split seconds." Secondly, it will provide a forum where teens will be able to meet and get to know police officers from our bureau's various divisions (uniform, detectives, bomb squad, S.W.A.T., vice & narcotics, K-9, etc.) simply as human beings...and vice-verse! Finally, it will expose to interested students to potential careers in criminal justice and/or as first responders. Whether it is to serve in the Pittsburgh Police, in a county , state or federal law enforcement agency or any other of the many other areas of criminal justice that would be available for them to pursue including forensic science, law, etc. I would hope you would find the value of the SPA for your students and will share this information with them. White Unmarked Car With Patrol Light at 5am

Hi Neighbors, A friend and I run at 5 am in the neighborhood. This morning we were on Hampton and Portland and saw a slow driving white sedan that was unmarked car with a spot light on the side. At the end of the run it was seen again by Park Bruge around 6am. Anyone have any ideas? It made us uncomfortable. Jenn Sent from my iPhone
