Reservoir of Jazz on Sunday, August 6th

Hi Neighbors and Friends, If it’s August there must be music in the park. Reservoir of Jazz is here, courtesy of Pittsburgh Citiparks and the Highland Park Community Council. The weather is looking to be beautiful, so bring your lawn chair and and relax in the park. The performance begins at 5pm and concludes at 7pm. Our performer for this Sunday is jazz pianist, composer and leader Jeff Lashway. Originally from Pittsburgh, Jeff was pianist with the late Maynard Ferguson and has performed with many Pittsburgh jazz legends such as Kenny Blake, Roger Humphries and Joe Negri. He has performed all over the United States, Canada and Europe. We are fortunate to have him perform for us this weekend. Everyday’s a Sundae in East Liberty will be serving food during the event. Available this week will be: Hot Sausage with Peppers and Onions Fruit Cups Pasta Salad Cups Meat, Cheese and Crackers Cups Iced Tea LaScolla’s Italian Ice, soon to be opening a storefront in Highland Park, will be serving dessert: Italian ice Frozen custard Coffee custard floats Brownies with custard Lemonade Iced coffee Cold water There will be children’s activities provided by the Highland Park Community Council and we will be conducting a 50/50 raffle during the show. Looking for after school childcare.

Hi neighbors, I am exploring options for after-school care for my soon-to-be kindergartner. The ideal candidate would have safe transportation and a clean driving record. S/he would need to pick up my son from Dilworth school at 3:45 pm, drive him home (less than a mile away), and spend a couple of hours with him until my husband/I get home around 5:45pm. During this time, I would like him to do something active/read/build with legos etc. (anything but be parked in front of the TV). S/he should be reliable, punctual, and must have previous experience working with children. Should be attentive, energetic, patient, and should model good behaviors. References are a huge plus. Porch Crawl 12-Aug -- still time to host!

Greetings all. Following up on Sherry's mail below, we have seven fabulous porches (including ours) for the inaugural Highland Park porch crawl. It would be great to pick up a few more. *Would you consider hosting?* It's a breeze (pun intended :-) just hang out on your porch from 6-9pm on Saturday August 12 and meet your neighbors as they come by. You can feel free to serve munchies and beverages, but don't feel obligated. We're going to make some antipasti based on ideas we picked up from our vacation in Ticino Switzerland and Piemonte Italy (I'm actually in Alba now while I type this). And as a way to say thanks to our porch hosts, we've arranged for some nice discounts at a variety of Bryant Street merchants.
