You are invited to a public screening of “Standardized," a new movie about high-stakes-testing and the impact on our kids. A group of moms is bringing it to Pittsburgh. Tuesday, March 11th 5-8PM McConomy Auditorium Carnegie Mellon University campus This will be an opportunity to talk about the growing impact high-stakes-testing is having on students, teachers, and our schools – and the options we have to change that. The movie has been playing all over the country to large crowds, hosted by grassroots groups like ours. We will have an exclusive showing for the general public on Tuesday, March 11th, at 5:30PM at Carnegie Mellon University. If you can come to this special private screening, we will ask that you commit to helping spread the word to your networks, encouraging them to come to the March 11th event. We plan to have refreshments and a panel discussion. We’re taking a bit of a risk here: this event will cost us $750 to produce, so we will ask for a $5 donation at the door and are really depending on friends like you to spread the word to more friends and colleagues – or else several of us moms are going to be left holding the bag!

Highland Park’s Annual Bryant Street Festival Sunday June 1, 2014, noon -5:00 pm This annual street fair is sponsored by the Highland Park Community Council and takes place on Bryant Street between Highland and N. St Clair streets. The event includes live musical performances, food vendors, artists selling their work, hands on activities such as ceramics, hula hooping, and a tennis clinic as well as children’s activities. We are looking for artists or crafters from the neighborhood who would like to participate by performing on stage, demonstrating or selling arts/crafts, fundraising via a bake sale or face painting. Hello, I have some bedding that I no longer need - a couple of blankets and bed spreads, a sheet set, and decorative pillows, very lightly used. I believe that Goodwill does not accept these sorts of items. Does anyone know of a local shelter or other organization that will take them as donations? Thanks, Laura Grafton St
