[Highland Park] Crime Watch or ...?

I hope to be able to express my opinion in a non-offensive way on the matter of the crime watch. I don't know for sure if I've read every email regarding the crime watch that some folks have been encouraging, but I am 100% in support of crime reduction and want to have a safe neighborhood for everyone to live in. That being said, I can't help but think that some of the emails that have been sent across these past few weeks sound a bit snobbish. If landlords aren't keeping up their properties, that's something that needs to be addressed. If folks are dealing drugs or have suspicious goings-on at their residences, that needs to be addressed as well. However, I hesitate to be in support of the "we don't want that kind of person living here" camp if there's not factual evidence that the person is actually committing crimes. I only hope that we community members are diligent and watchful, but not targeting folks out of fear because they look like something that fits our prejudicial idea of a criminal. I include myself in that last statement because I do believe that all of us need to be careful of our biases. I've found Highland Park to be a fantastic community of folks who seem to care much about one another. I've lived here all but one of the past 9 years, and I've seen people banding together for all sorts of good reasons, including helping disadvantaged folks afford Christmas trees, obtain needed services, etc. I love that my neighbors embrace the opportunity to help one another, and hope that we can all remember to continue to do so.

[Highland Park] I Made It Holiday Market in O'Hara Twp on Sunday

Hi Neighbors, If you are looking for opportunities to shop local for the holidays, O'Hara Twp.'s Boyd Center is hosting an I Made It Holiday Market on Sunday - see info below. In addition to the craft vendors, a friend of mine who runs My Goodies Bakery, a vegan-and-allergy-concious bakery, will be vending. It's a great opportunity to talk to her about special orders for gluten-free or egg/dairy free holiday cakes and pies if you have guests with food allergies or dietary restrictions who are visiting for christmas or new years - she also has a website you can visit if you can't make it to the market but want to learn more - http://www.mygoodiesbakery.com. She makes great treats, and it put a smile on my face this fall to see my friends' little boy with a ton of food allergies get to run up to her market tables and pick out a treat alongside his sister, which is a very novel experience for him. [Highland Park] Borrow Kids Table and chairs for 12/14

I am having a few of my son's friends over to decorate Christmas cookies. I need to borrow a kid size table and at least 3 kids size chairs. [Highland Park] Steelers vs Bengals Tickets - Under Face Value

Hi neighbors, We have two tickets to this week's Steelers/Bengals game we cannot use. The tickets are in Section 532, Row T, Seats 9 and 10. The face value is $75 and we would like to get $60 per ticket, if possible. However, we would also accept the best offier. [Highland Park] Lessons and Carols, Sunday 3 p.m.

A seasonal highlight, Sunday, December 15, 3 p.m. Traditional readings presented by members of parish, the Episcopal Diocese, the ecumenical community, and civic and community leaders, with carols and anthems sung by the three choirs of St. Andrew's Church. If previous years are any indication, it's a good idea to arrive a bit before 3 p.m. to be sure to find a seat!
