[Highland Park] Suspicious man - Hampton and Mellon

Hello all, > > I had a strange encounter tonight about 8:30 with a man in front of my house, while I was still in my car. A man dressed in black sweats approached me, while I was still in my car, trying to tell a story about his car being stolen on Bryant Street and he needing bus fare to get his family home to the North Side. He said the cops were at the scene but would not take his family home and he was just looking for bus fare. He could tell I was more than a little caught off guard (I was in my car alone and it was pitch black out.) He just kept trying to get "bus fare". He asked me to go to the market on Mellon Street, and he would come with me. And he then tried to prove he wasn't dangerous by lifting his shirt up and saying "see, no weapons". I told him I would drive to the bank, he offered to come with me again. I said no, that I would meet him at Bryant St. I left, called the cops and reported the suspicious activity. An officer met me and confirmed that there was no car theft on Bryant tonight. He said he's be making rounds through HP and that there are a lot of people looking to scam others right now. Sorry if this is a bit of an over-reaction. But I wanted to share so you can keep your eyes open and be safe. -- Shannon Marie Anglero

[Highland Park] The "Twenty Hearts" series

Today our president gave his most sincere speech yet when the news of 20 innocent lives had been taken away from them. As an aspiring photographer it is my duty to tell a story within my photographs, and it is my duty to captivate a particular moment in time. As a mother my heart was broken and I cannot possibly imagine the heartache these parents, grandparents and siblings of the lost children are going through right now. I would like to begin a personal project DEDICATED to the lost lives of CT by photographing 20 children between the ages of 5-10. There is not yet an EXACT DATE & TIME, as I will need to first confirm willing participants. We will go from there and I would like to shoot this project the first or second weekend of January. I will be shooting simple B&W portraits and placing them into a slide show presentation attached with an artist statement including parts of Obama's speech. I need all the help that I can get, so ask people that you know! For the people who accept my offer I will give a print of their child and a copy of the slide show. Remember this is not for school, but simply reaching out to those lives lost on December 14, 2012 ♥ I will make a contract for the parents approval. [Highland Park] CARES airplane harness for sale

I have a CARES airplane harness for sale. It is a harness for toddlers/ preschoolers that is FAA approved to replace a car seat for children using their own seat. It's approved for kids over 1 year old who weigh 22 to 44 pounds and are less than 40 inches tall. I also added a set of strap pads to make the harness more comfortable. I've used it for maybe 2 trips (so about 16 flights total with connections) but my kid has outgrown it. It's really convenient to be able to check the car seat and not have to lug it through the airport, especially with the lack of direct flights these days! It made a big difference when traveling with my kid, and I thought someone might want to have it to make holiday travel easier. It retails for about $65 on Amazon. I'm asking $40.
