[Highland Park] removing awnings

Hello neighbors, My husband I bought a house here in Highland Park this past spring that came with a whole lot of awnings attached to our front porch. I am counting down the days until we remove them. Has anyone had experience removing metal (maybe they are aluminum?) awnings - is this something we can easily do ourselves? Will it require any certain tools or equipment and finally, what might be the best use of awning-pieces once they blissfully come down? Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated! The Highland Park Art and Craft Fair will be Dec. 2 and 3. Friday , Dec.2 will be only in the evening from 5-7, we will set-up from 3-4. Saturday, Dec. 3 will be from 9am-6pm. We will supply table , chair, coffee, tea, and donuts. If you are an artist or crafter and you want to apply. Contact Sandy Ferguson at 412-661-2222 or e-mail skaferguson(a)gmail.com. The fee is $25.00 and you must donate one or more items for the Chinese Auction. The money from the auction will go to the Homeless Children's Education Fund and Animal Friends. We give each charity $250 each last year. This fair is a wonderful community activity. We have only 6 or 8 tables left. The dead line for application and fee is Oct. 30, 2011. Sandy Ferguson

[Highland Park] I need your empty bottles. It's like recycling, but better!

Neighbors, I'm ramping up my homebrewing hobby and fortunately I'm making beer and wine faster than I can drink it. That wouldn't be a problem if I had enough bottles to hold everything that I make, but currently I don't. So what I am asking of you all is to set aside any empty *NON-TWISTOFF* wine and beer bottles for me. The corking and capping systems that I have only work with non-twistoff bottles. If you have the cases that the beer came in, that would be an extra bonus and save me a lot of hassle in terms of storage. The bottles don't have to be sterilized or anything, although I prefer that they be clean enough that they don't start attracting hornets and wasps to my car as I drive them home. Also, you don't even have to see/meet me if you don't want to, just let me know where the bottles will be and I'll come whisk them away from you. I'll be available to come get them anytime Friday evening through Sunday night. Thanks in advance. Jim
