[Highland Park] half marathon fundraiser

In June, my friend Sherry Jo and I ran a half marathon to raise funds for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. Training and support were provided and we got to spend a weekend in Virginia Wine Country where the race was hosted. It was hugely rewarding experience and we made some incredible new friends. Training is starting now for the half marathon that will be run in Las Vegas this December. (On the strip, after dark-how cool is that?) Most of you know we do Cairn terrier rescue work but have also rescued afew Westies. There is an 18 month old male Westie at the Humane Society that is available for adoption if any of our neighbors in HP are interested. If anyone decides to go and adopt him please let me know. Hi everyone... Thank you all so much for the info about piano lessons... Many people asked that I share the results of my search... So, here's a list of feedback, pretty much verbatim... I have not looked into any of these options yet, but just thought I'd share now, so you can do your own research too... Pittsburgh Music Academy…. http://www.pghma.com/ My Mother in law lives in Stanton Heights and is a very kind and patient piano teacher with many years experience. My husband, Bill Evans on Jackson St has a long history of teaching...all ages and he loves his little students. The current organist at 1st pres downtown was a student of his when she was in 1st grade, for example. There are many stories like this..... We have 5 grandaughters and he has led childrens choirs all over the country for over 50 years. We have a piano and organ in our home. He would love to talk with you. Hm: 412-404-2350. I live in the neighborhood and can come to your home (we also have a piano here if you don't have one of your own). My rate is $25 for a 1/2 hour lesson but I'm always willing to negotiate to accommodate your budget if necessary. We go to Sena Thompson, a Suzuki teacher in Stanton Heights. Highland Park-ers: I'm sure many of you have noticed the young street trees along Stanton and N Highland Avenues, Portland Street and Mellon Terrace. These trees are the result of the efforts of Highland Park residents who have been trained as 'Tree Tenders' through Tree Pittsburgh. The trees are well on their way to enhancing the beauty and health of our neighborhood and could use a little TLC to help them along. Please join the Highland Park Tree Tenders for a Tree Care and Pruning Evening. What: Trees along Stanton Avenue between N. Negley and N. Highland. When: Tuesday August 30, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Where: We’ll meet at the corner of Stanton and Mellon in front of the CDC building at 5635 Stanton. You and the trees will love it.
