A friend of mine - a Duquesne graduate student - is looking for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment, lease to begin ASAP. As a graduate student, she does not have a large amount to spend so she is hoping for something in the $450-500/month range. I know that is probably under-market in Highland Park, but she is open to living in other areas of the City. Anyone have anything available, or know someone who does?

Please join us this Thursday, August 18, for our monthly Highland Park Community Council meeting. Meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at St. Andrew's Church, Hampton Street. All are welcome to attend. This month's speaker is Dawn Lehman, a Trainer and Community Educator with The Center for Victims of Violence and Crime. The Center for Victims of Violence and Crime (CVVC) is a community-based non-profit organization whose mission is to heal trauma, resolve conflict, and end violence. Their Dialogue and Resolution Center (DRC) helps to facilitate and teach nonviolent ways to resolve conflict, promote constructive conversations and repair harm. Their mediation services are free for individuals. Some of the types of conflict that they assist with are those between neighbors, landlords and tenants, businesses and consumers, employees, etc. People may assume that a neighbor dispute is an actual fight or clash of personalities, but we have heard from numerous residents who never speak to their neighbors, but are slowly being driven crazy by barking dogs, shared retaining walls, afternoon band practice, outdoor light placement, smoking on porches, etc. Sometimes mediation is the quickest and cheapest way to work things out. My mother is having a yard sale this weekend in Stanton Heights, just a five minute drive from Highland Park. There will be a variety of items for sale, including: bikes, new Tupperware, new and gently used PartyLite candle items, books (fiction and nonfiction), bathroom exhaust fan, “This End Up” bunk bed frames, assorted Christmas décor. Hours: 9-2 on Saturday. Location: 6500 Martha St. To get there, go up the hill on Greenwood, just off of Morningside Ave. Turn left on El Paso and right on Martha. Do not turn onto Martha from Morningside; it does not connect.
