[Highland Park] reporting crimes ... what good does it do?

"Make sure you file a report to alert the police. I don't know what good it does, but it is better than nothing." When I go to public safety meetings and the police are encouraging (begging!) people to report crimes, they emphasize that resources are allocated TO each Zone and BY each Zone based on reported crimes. If it's not reported, basically it didn't happen. So, our Zone doesn't need as many police officers and cars, and the ones we have don't need to patrol those streets where there is NO crime. pat

Hello, My boyfriend and I are currently searching for an apartment. While we've been looking the last few weeks we have come to realize that most one 1 bedrooms are not quite big enough and our current place is just too big. We are hoping to find either a 2 bedroom or a 1 bedroom that has a separate living room and dining room. We are looking to spend between $700-$800 and need a place that will allow cats. We are looking to move in September but are flexible on our move-in dates. If anyone has anything that will soon be available or knows of anyone who might, that would be great. I would prefer to stay in Highland Park, but I am also willing to look in Friendship, Shadyside, and Morningside. Thanks, Autumn

HI, This mirrored cabinet is left over from the remodel. It measures: 16" wide, 22" high and 3-1/2" deep. This is a recessed plastic cabinet with a 1" extension from the wall. It has two glass shelves with a bracket for another shelf. No takers and it goes to C. Junction. Rich and Bonnee

[Highland Park] For Sale - Mid-Century Executive Office Desk

Hi Neighbors, I recently moved out of the neighborhood and now live in Glenshaw (about 7 miles north). I have a large wooden office desk that I no longer need. It's simply too big to fit into the small office space I have in my new house. The desk was designed by a well-known mid-century furniture designer named Jens Risom http://www.dwr.com/category/designers/r-t/jens-risom.do (FYI - desk has a plate on it with Risom's name to verify authenticity). It is L-shaped with 3 drawers and a return on the lefthand side. This is a big, solid, heavy, large piece of furniture for people who spend inordinate amounts of time working at a desk and need lots of furface area to spread out papers and books and work (it got me through grad school at CMU!). I don't have the dimensions handy but can get them for you if you're interested. I used this desk in my old Victorian house when I lived in the neighborhood. It fit well in my office which was approximately 12' x 12' with high ceilings. It also went really well with all the old woodwork in my house. Even though it's a mid-century piece, it blended in nicely with old house. This desk really wouldn't work in a very small house or apartment as it's too large. But if you live in a place with large rooms, then this would work really well in a large office space.
