[Highland Park] Oven repair help

Dear neighbors, Our gas oven smells strongly of gas when we pre-heat it and when we first turn it on. This smell has been lasting longer and longer as we've used the oven, and now we think it probably has a problem that could be a safety hazard. Do any of you have recommendations for someone who can repair the oven and its connection to the gas line? Our oven brand is Frigidaire Gallery if that helps. If all else fails, we'll have to call in a Sears person, which can cost quite a bit. Thanks, Neepa Majumdar

Hi Richard, The next yard debris date is November 12. However, I'm assuming you don't want to wait that long, so here are two other options for you. 1) You can still recycle yard debris (loose or in paper bags) at the East End Recycling Center located at the intersection of Dallas Ave & Hamilton Ave. You must bring a PA license with your city address to show that you are city resident. Their hours are generally M-F 8 am-2pm. Call 412-665-3609 for Saturday hours or other questions. 2) You can bag your yard debris or tie up branches and leave them at the curb on any week to have them collected, although these will be dumped instead of composted. [Highland Park] Request for yard sale volunteers

Neighbors, The yard sale is upon us. Everything is set. The weather looks fantastic. It will be a great day in Highland Park. I am looking for volunteers to hand out yard sale listings. If you could contribute an hour or two of your time on Sunday morning it would be greatly appreciated. The task is simple. There are set locations in the neighborhood where we hand out maps & listings to people visiting the neighborhood. The visitors are smiling and are appreciative of the volunteers' help. They may ask for directions or a hint on where the best yards are located. It is fun, it is easy, and it feels good helping the bargain hunters. Please let me know if you are interested. I'll need to know when you would be available to hand out the listings. The yard sale starts at 9am and we staff the map locations until 1pm or when the maps run out. I still have a fair amount of mulberry tree firewood in my back yard. I'd rather not give it away for free (getting a tree cut down is not cheap!), but no reasonable offer for a bit of wood will be refused. Even $10 will buy you a good-sized load. Send me an email if interested. Thanks! Ben

Dear Supporters of Scenic Pittsburgh, The Pittsburgh City Council will soon vote on the proposed zoning ordinance regulating electronic billboards. Scenic Pittsburgh supports many of the provisions in the proposed ordinance regarding business premises signs, and video entertainment venues. Unfortunately, the ordinance still allows for the conversion of hundreds of existing billboards to electronic billboards. New billboards could also be built in places where they are currently prohibited. Now is the time to tell Mayor Ravenstahl and Pittsburgh City Council that our beautiful and scenic city should not be used a backdrop for commercial advertising.
