I joined Urban Active a couple of months ago and while I really like the gym, I was stunned by the cost of a personal trainer and also by the fact that I would have to 'hire' one for a YEAR. When I asked about a shorter term, (3 to 6 months), I was told that it had to be for a year. I have found that there is a LOT more to weight loss, resistance training, cardio, and free weights and machines than I ever knew. Anyone have experience with trainers and if so, what did you think? Was it helpful? I know what I want in terms of strength training and toning, but am concerned that there is a lot of room for error since there is so much to learn. Thanks a lot for your help, Kate

[Highland Park] Urgent: Two Alaskan Huskies In Need of Homes

Dear Neighbors: If you are experienced with the Northern Breed Group and are seeking to adopt or even foster, please read this email! There are two Alaskan Huskies currently at the Animal Rescue League on Hamilton Ave in desperate need of homes. If these two are not adopted or taken into foster homes soon, they may be put down by Friday. Slice and Niche are from the same litter and are not even one year old. We have been to visit them twice and have even introduced them to our two Siberian Huskies. All four dogs got along very well and played vigorously! Both Slice and Niche (female and male) are incredibly sweet and extremely beautiful. They are a Malamute-Siberian Husky mix. Unfortunately, the breeder could not find proper homes for the entire litter, so four of the puppies were brought to the ARL. So far, two of the four have been adopted and are adjusting well to their homes. Slice and Niche still need to find homes as soon as possible! Please call the Animal Rescue League at (412) 661-6452 if you are interested in fostering or adopting these dogs. You may ask to speak with Lacey; she is the Adoptions Coordinator and is very familiar with these dogs and their situation. I will send another email with pictures as soon as I can. Thank you. My 6-year old daughter had her Razor, red-handled scooter stolen off of our porch yesterday. A child's green BMX bike with a flat tire was left on our lawn in its place. Here is what my daughter has to say about this: "I feel really sad. Please return it any time you can." If you know of the scooter's whereabouts, please return it to our porch: 1100 Portland Street. Hello everyone, In light of the recent emails concerning dogs off-leash and the dog attack, I sent a few questions to the head of Animal Care and Control and wanted to share his responses with you. First of all, he said he would have his staff patrol the area as much as possible. Like the police, Animal Control's activities are primarily dictated by calls. Unlike the police, they only have a few vehicles and they cover the entire city. For these reasons, there is no way to know when or for how long they will be able to be in Highland Park, but we appreciate any extra attention that can be paid to this area. Second, he said that any time there is a dog bite (on a human or other dog), one should call 911 so that someone can come out and take a report. Dog licenses may be obtained from the City Treasurer's office, or from the City Finance office website <http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/finance/html/dog_license_application.h tml> . Licensing fees are cheaper for "fixed" dogs (male or female). * You must have proof of your dog's current rabies vaccination. Rabies vaccinations are required by PA state law at 3 months of age. * Dogs are not permitted to run unleashed on public streets, sidewalks, other public places or other people's property. * If you are walking your dog, it must be on a leash or chain not more than 6 feet in length. * Any female dog "in heat" (the times during the year when the female is able to breed and have a litter) must be kept inside. Nuisance Violations * Frequent and habitual barking, howling, screeching, yelping, or baying by a dog, cat or other animals. * Allowing an animal to create offensive odors, excessive noise or unsanitary conditions which are considered dangerous to health, comfort or safety of the public. * Allowing a dog to "go to the bathroom" on school grounds, a City park or other public or private property (It is not considered to be a nuisance violation if you immediately clean up after your dog - called "Poop-Scoop" laws in most communities). * Allowing your pet to scratch, dig or defecate on any lawn, tree, shrub, plant, building or any other public or private property other than that of the owner or person in charge or control of the animal. [Highland Park] rototiller needed

We're needing to rent a rototiller for our garden but when I searched online I found that the local Home Depot doesn't rent equipment. Rather than travel to one of the other farther locations I was hoping we could borrow one for an afternoon sometime in the next week or so. If anyone has one they'd be willing to lend or rent for a few hours that would be ideal. Thanks so much! Heather
