Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could go to get plexi-glass or regular glass cut as home depot is no longer in that business. Also does anyone know about a paint stripper in the area? [Highland Park] Kids' activity at tonight's Reservoir of Jazz: Obstacle course!!

Dear Neighbors: We will be having our second annual Highland Park Kids obstacle course event during the Reservoir of Jazz concert this evening. If anyone has any interesting equipment to contribute, please call me asap: 412.370-3778. We need two of each item to make 2 competing courses. In particular, I'm looking for: 2 short flat ladders (wooden or rope/plastic) 2 large rakes 2 soccer or other sturdy balls 2 sturdy plastic step stools (to support a 2x4 that I have for a balance beam; I do have 2 additional stools). Also, I'll take volunteers to help set up and monitor the course, give out water to kids, etc. I may also do a craft table so I'll need a couple of volunteers to help with that activity. Please step up and help out!! These are really fun and rewarding activities. Also, I will sign any teens' SACK books or other volunteer forms so let's teach our youth about the importance of volunteerism!! See you at 5 p.m.! Jana

[Highland Park] Stolen Bike

Neighbors: My husband came home this afternoon with his bike, turned off the house alarm and radio, and in that very short time span, his bike was stolen off our porch. It was recovered almost immediately and the person was caught personally by my husband one street over. Please be very careful when leaving things out unattended even for a minute. Historic Landmark Awards in August 2009 – Save the Dates Pittsburgh, August 26 and Titusville, August 27 In 1859 Edwin Drake was the first person in the world to apply well drilling technology to produce significant quantities of crude petroleum, at Titusville, PA. However, it is a little known fact that Samuel Kier of Pittsburgh was the first person to refine crude oil by distillation, five years earlier than Drake’s discovery, in about 1854. Kier’s primary product was kerosene, a clean burning lamp fuel. In addition, in 1861 Charles Lockhart built the first commercial scale oil refinery, in Pittsburgh’s Highland Park neighborhood. That plant was put to use to refine crude oil produced at Titusville. Lockhart became a prominent citizen of East Liberty and a generous philanthropist. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the drilling of the Drake well, the American Chemical Society (ACS) will present a National Historical Chemical Landmark award at Titusville on Thursday August 27, 2009. In addition, an ACS National Historical Chemical Landmark award commemorating Samuel Kier’s work will be presented in Pittsburgh on Wednesday August 26. Today’s extensive worldwide petroleum industry is a direct outgrowth of the efforts of Drake and Kier, first demonstrated in Western Pennsylvania. The Titusville event will be held at the Drake Well Museum and the Pittsburgh event will take place at the Senator John Heinz History Center, Downtown. Both events, which are free and open to the public, will include symposia on energy related topics, with the Pittsburgh speakers covering the contributions of Kier and Lockhart among other topics. [Highland Park] Cat needs a home - can you please help??

Hello! We have been caring for a cat for a few months now and need to find it a loving home. She came to us via a friend who got a job where he is required to travel on a regular basis and obviously cannot keep her. He named her Touche', but she does seems to answer/come to just about any name....'princess, sweetie', kitty'. We are not able to keep her permanently because we have two cats of our own and the three of them just do not get along. Here is her description: * Female cat * INDOOR ONLY * 5 yrs old * breed: Dilute Torbie (gray with fawn and beige markings - see picture below of a similar looking cat) * short hair * we just had her spayed on July 14, 2009 and teeth cleaned with one removed (no more stinky breath ) * she has claws - I have them clipped regularly; she uses the scratching post and loves to scratch on cardboard boxes * she is up on her vaccinations - we had it all done a few months ago (I have the papers and rabies tag) * she was raised, from when she was a few months old until we got her, with a Miniature Pomeranian dog - they got along well. I do not know how she is with other dogs. * she is playful - likes kitty toys and likes to nibble playfully on fingers * she is a sleeper/lounger * not much of a lap cat * likes canned and dry cat food - really good appetite; and enjoys some kitty treats * best living environment would be with either a single person or a couple - NOT good with loud noises or lots of commotion or kids. * she would be a great apartment cat - loves one or two rooms to roam in.
