Hello, We're looking for a recommendation for someone to replace a basement pillar support. Ideally, we're looking for the sort of person you'd trust to replace a pillar in your basement. (One guy who came over to give us an estimate knocked the pillar and said, "I think it's fine." We're not looking for a guy like that.) I'll post the list and comments once I have them together. [Highland Park] Construction Junction (was: Wanted: Radiator for Hot Water Heating System)

The Highland Park Neighborhood mailing list strikes again! I asked for a radiator and so many people suggested Construction Junction. I should have mentioned in my original post that the "dead end" radiator that we had found was at CJ. We went back home to measure our space to be sure it would fit, and by the time we went back--it was gone! Our luck, all the others that they currently have were not the right size. The worker at CJ said they had 4 calls on that one radiator. Construction Junction is the greatest place to find architectural elements for our old HP houses Unfortunately (for me <grin>), CJ has become very popular--not only judging by the number of people who suggested it to me, but also judging by the huge number of people who were in there last weekend. So, you have to be more vigilant if you want to get one of those great CJ "finds." We missed out this time, but we'll keep going back for more. We discovered that they open at 8am on weekday mornings and when we were there this morning, not only was it less crowded than on the weekend, but it seemed to be a better time to get one of those great "finds." This morning there was a very nice looking stainless steel LG dishwasher. Not something we need, but it will be great for someone. Another reason to go early on a weekday this month is their "red light specials"--15% off everything in the place during a selected hour between 8 and 11am, twice a week. [Highland Park] Wanted: Radiator for Hot Water Heating System

We are remodeling our kitchen and need to move the radiator to another place in the room. Unfortunately, our existing radiator will not fit in the new space. So, I was wondering if anyone in the neighborhood had one that had been removed for a remodeling project, etc. We need one that is not taller than 40 inches and not wider than 30 inches and not deeper than 12 inches. We did have a lead on a "10 fin" unit that would have been almost perfect, but it turned out to be a dead end. If anyone out there has one, please contact me by email or call 412-848-8320. St. Andrew's at the Mooovies -- 7 p.m. Saturday, February 21, in Brooks Hall 5801 Hampton Street, Highland Park The Adult Programs Committee Presents Academy Award, Best Picture, 1947 Gentleman's Agreement Philip Schuyler Green (Gregory Peck) is a widowed journalist who has just moved to New York City with his son Tommy (Dean Stockwell) and mother (Anne Revere). Green meets with magazine publisher John Minify (Albert Dekker), who asks Green to write an article on antisemitism. After initially struggling with how to approach the topic in a fresh way, Green is inspired to adopt a Jewish identity ("Phil Greenberg") and write about his own first-hand experiences. Green and Minify agree to keep it secret that Phil is not actually Jewish; since he and his family are new to New York and know almost no one, it should be easy to hide.
