Hello Neighbors, Please try to attend the upcoming CeaseFirePA Pittsburgh meeting on Tuesday evening, September 23rd, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Joe Grace, our Executive Director, will be in town to meet with us. Also planning to attend are representatives from the District Attorney's office who will discuss their gun task force and give us a status of the group's activities, representatives of Pittsburgh City Council and the police department. Joe Grace will give us Harrisburg and D.C. updates and we will discuss upcoming local gun violence reduction initiatives. The location for the CeaseFirePA meeting on Tuesday, September 23, from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. is: First United Methodist Church 5401 Centre Avenue Pittsburgh PA 15232-1621 This is the very large church in Shadyside at the intersection of Centre Ave., Negley Ave., Aiken Ave., & Baum Blvd. It is across from a Courtyard by Marriott hotel. FOLLOW SIGNS TO THE CHURCH LIBRARY. **Please enter through the door on the Aiken Ave. side of the building (facing the Courtyard by Marriott hotel). There is a small parking lot there and also metered parking on Aiken Ave. There is a larger parking w/ entrance on Centre Ave. across from Panera Bread. The door on that side of the building may not be open, so I suggest you walk past the front of the church to the Aiken Ave. side and enter at the wooden doors there. The church is very interested in CeaseFirePA & some members of the congregation will be attending. Please invite an interested friend or colleague. Remember, our priority is to grow our coalition, make our collective voice louder in Harrisburg, and fight back against the NRA's goal of allowing concealed firearms in all public places. [Highland Park] HPCC Meeting Tonight 7pm

The HPCC Annual Members meeting is tonight at 7:00 pm at St Andrews Church, 5801 Hampton Street. All are welcome. I forgot to put in the slate of candidates when I sent the message out at the beginning of the week. The Nomination Committee recommends these candidates: President -- Mike Nadler VP -- Eric Randall Treasurer -- Kelly Vitti Secretary -- Bob Staresinic There are 3 Directors to be elected to 3-year terms: Jana Finder Paul Miller If you are interested in serving as a Board member, please let me know. One Director resigned last year, so we will elect someone to fill that 1-year term. Al Mann This is just the suggestions of the Nomination Committee, and the floor will be open to other nominations at the meeting this evening. In addition to some reports of the HPCC Committees, David Hance and Paul Svoboda from the Highland Park Community Development Corp will be giving a brief update on Bryant Street, the SouthWest Quadrant and planning efforts underway in the Larimer area. [Highland Park] need trees trimmed

Does anyone know and recommend anyone to trim some trees? We have one in our backyard that is practically laying on our and our neighbor's roof and on our electrical wires. It desparately needs trimmed, and our neighbor wants her front tree cut as well. Thanks Alyssa

[Highland Park] Are you missing an orange cat?

I live up by the tennis courts on North Saint Clair and over the last week or two I have been seeing quite a bit of an orange tabby cat. I think it's a girl. It has no collar and appears to be about 1-2 years old. It is really friendly and comes quickly to get its ears scratched. If it belongs to you, please let me know. It is a bit on the skinny side. [Highland Park] Missing Cat No Longer

Hello all! Just wanted to let you know that Prudance, our missing white foofy cat, has returned -- very grumpy, but still beautiful! I just want to thank those of you who reported sightings of our missing cat and those of you who offered help (humane traps and all!). I very much appreciate your concern and compassion. I found Prudance with a yellow cord tied quite tightly around her neck and the very long length of it had become tangled in the brush in the walkway between our house and our neighbor's. But she cried loud enough for us to come to her rescue -- which is unusual as Pru normally never says a word! Again, my thanks to our caring, concerned neighbors and this list!! [Highland Park] Yorkshire Terrier found

A neighbor found a large Yorkshire Terrier with a blue collar wandering the streets this morning. It is a male. The dog was found somewhere on Wellesley Ave between Mellon and N St Clair. He took the dog to Doublebbee's Dog Grooming at the corner of Wellesley and Mellon St. Call Bill at 412-361-4681 if you want to claim the dog.

We had a green and silver Razor style scooter stolen off of our front porch last night. If anyone finds it, we'd appreciate having it back. This is the second scooter we've had stolen from our home this year. Chop, WOK & Talk! an Asian cooking school at 5404 Penn & S. Aiken Avenues is looking for a "foodie" type of person to help with corporate team building events and private parties at the cooking school. Sometimes the parties are at lunchtime, evenings, or weekends. This would be occasional help--3-4 times a month. It would entail 4 hours of work, including set up, dishes, and clean-up.
