Hello neighbors: I'm revamping and getting rid of some furniture--which I'm putting on sale at Craig's list and here: 1. Very unusual rococo walnut dining table, ornately carved all over with putti, lion's faces, and paw feet. Three leaves (not pictured), Six matching side chairs upholstered in red velvet; two matching arm chairs in red and blue fine fabric (silk/wool). $1000. 2. Large dark wood (cherry?) bookshelf, eight shelves (four on each side); notched shelf rests; from an old library at midwestern Catholic college; $50. 3. King sized futon platform, disassembled. Free. Hi Neighbors! I have a friend who is available, and looking, this summer to watch children at your home. She is going to be a junior at Duquesne University where she is going for her Masters to become a Physicians Assistant (like a Nurse Practitioner). She works very well with smaller children ,infants to 6 years of age, as she works at the nursery during church. She does well with all ages of children though and is very active (biking, walking, swimming, etc) and loves going to different places around town (Museum, Park, Zoo, etc). The owner of the new Smiling Banana Leaf Thai restaurant (formerly Peppi's) on Bryant street is also hoping to open the doors to patrons this weekend ( barring any final arrangement changes). Dear Highland Park neighbors, Jean and I had dinner last Sunday at Tana, the new Ethiopian restaurant in East Liberty, and recommend it highly. With its special herbal sauces, we found it cuts above similar restaurants. It is located just around the corner from the East Liberty Library. I asked the proprietor, Seifu Haileyesus, for a description. He wrote: Tana Ethiopian Cuisine, located at 5929 Baum Blvd., is a family owned restaurant that offers authentic Ethiopian cuisine. The hours of operation are Tuesday - Sunday. Lunch 11:00a.m.-2:30p.m.Dinner 5:00p.m.-11:00p.m. On Saturday during lunch, there is a complementary Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. Happy hour is Tuesday -Friday 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m. with $4.00 Martini specials. Tana has a full bar and also offers Tej (Ethiopian Honey Wine), the only place in town that offers it. This coming Sunday Tana will have a Mother's Day special menu complete with the coffee ceremony. This and other restaurants--Red Room, Abaye, Royal Caribbean--are an essential part of the amazing renaissance of East Liberty, something we in Highland Park should support to keep them flourishing. Hello Highland Park Rotary, PNC Pedal Pittsburgh 2008, an event of the Community Design Center of Pittsburgh, is coming up on Sunday, May 18th. I am looking for several volunteers to help serve fruit and water at the Highland Park Rest Stop at the Reservoir and also 1 or 2 individuals to help keep biker riders safe by being a Course Marshal at an Intersection in the neighborhood. No matter which task you choose, you're sure to have a great time, meet new people, and help make the event a success! [Highland Park] Seeking info re injured cat

There was an injured cat mentioned yesterday near North Beatty and Highland Ave. If may have been the same cat which injured our neighbor near Highland and Stanton. The cat is grey, with white paws and white chest (or similar, I didn't see him/her). Thinking that this cat was our indoor cat which had escaped, our kind neighbor spent quite a bit of time trying to help the cat, laying out food, etc. As a result, she unfortunately wound up with some painful and serious injuries. We are therefore trying to discover the identity/whereabouts of this very frightened animal, in hopes of both helping the cat, and finding its owner to learn whether the cat is current on vaccinations, etc., so we can help our neighbor and possibly keep her from having to complete the series of rabies vaccinations and other treatments she is now undergoing.
