Because I write late at night, a regular office just doesn't work for me. [Highland Park] Shower floor replacement recommendations

We need to replace a leaky tile shower floor with some kind of fiberglass/acrylic floor. Anyone have recommendations for someone who might do this? Also looking for a chimney repointer. Thanks! [Highland Park] looking for a daytime babysitter

i'm looking for someone who would be able to watch one or both of my children a few hours a week during the day. i have a 10 month old and an almost 3 year old, both boys. i'd love to find a college student or someone who's been around children who has the time to help me out a little bit when i have appointments or daytime commitments that would be best accomplished without bringing my kids with me. thanks! genevieve hower

I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for all the wonderful information on Highland Park, your kindness, offers of help and friendship! I am so touched by the warmth and clearly folks are passionate about and love their neighborhood. I'm sold! And Drew is, too. We spent a bunch of time driving around the neighborhood a couple of weekends ago and I really felt like the neighborhood was wonderful, but the MIL said it was terrible and dangerous. We're different enough that I didn't put a lot of stock in that, but did want to ask some questions. I have loads of ideas to help build up the business district -- in DC we're awfully good at having big ideas! -- and hope to work with the neighborhood and the relevant groups to make sure my ideas are on track with what you guys would want. Once we get ourselves settled, I'd love to roll up my sleeves and start helping out to make a fantastic place even better. Thanks again. The kindness and warmth of the people is one of the reasons I love Pittsburgh so much and you all proved without a doubt that this is a place we want to be. [Highland Park] Considering a move to Highland Park

Hi: I joined your list serve after researching Pittsburgh neighborhoods in anticipation of a move to the city. I'd love any information and tips anyone on this list would be willing to provide. We currently live in Washington, DC. My boyfriend grew up in Penn Hills and has always wanted to move back to the city. When I visited, I just fell in love with Pittsburgh. Highland Park caught my attention, because I prefer to live in a more diverse neighborhood with lots of character and Highland Park seems to fit the bill. However, we've heard mixed things about Highland Park and I'd be interested in your honest assessment of progress in the neighborhood. Safety is the biggest one. We currently live in an "in transition" neighborhood in DC and I do tire of the drug dealers selling their wares right across the street from my house every day and the prostitutes wandering the neighborhood. Are there safety or crime considerations we should be aware of? My second question is in regard to the Highland Park Community Plan. It is an impressive plan and clearly much work and many good ideas went into it. I'm curious where things stand nearly four years after the plan was first released. Are there any areas that you think have not reached the level of progress you had hoped? I'm also wondering if there is continued work to be done to improve the business district and if there would be room for help in that area. There is nothing worse than an outsider coming in suggesting a lot of changes without appreciating all the work others have put into an effort. If we find a home in Highland Park, I would like to do what I can to help improve the neighborhood and take it to the next level. I would want to work within the existing structure you all have set up. I'd just need to be pointed in the right direction to build off of your good work. Would there be a need or opportunities for such an effort? Thanks in advance for any input that could help us make the decision and thanks for letting me join the list. The announcements I've seen so far are so interesting and make the neighborhood seem like a really fun place to live.
